A $26,990,000,000,000,000,000 Economic Windfall

--Imagine yourself viewing through your new media device the wonders of full fledged virtual reality, space exploration like never before, or nano-bot surgery/genetic therapy. All being viewed by the documentary style format you are watching commented "as obsolete as Egyptian papyrus?" Sounds ridiculous, impossible, yes today it certainly does. But not if the frontier of exploration is tapped as technology is allowing us in the near future to chase down these near earth asteroids and mine them in space.

--In varied recent national news reports, the "near miss" asteroid that flew by Earth held between 5 trillion-10 trillion dollars in valuable minerals, all of which would send our rare Earth market into a frenzy, but likely send our industrial markets into a renaissance, or even a revolution the likes of which we truly have never seen before. The Post-Medieval Industrial Revolution would be made to look like a lemonade stand if this were to be maximized among citizens across the globe in true investment.

--Here is the most ridiculous example illustrating that thought. The space asteroid Davida that is over 325 km wide is estimated to have (roughly, pun intended) resources worth 27 QUINTILLIAN DOLLARS.

--To be a little more accurate it was $26,990,000,000,000,000,000. Sound like a small rounding error for the amount it is short the next quintillian? Well, the amount short the 27 quintillian is fairly comparable to the current size of the annual US government budget, ($10 trillion sized budget, 10 trillion for the slight rounding up).

--Stymied by the ASTRONOMICAL numbers. I sure am. I am curious to hear your thoughts, send them my way!

Sort:

The real money is in the sun, we should mine the sun because It has 98%+ of all resources in the solar system and could power the mining equipment at the same time! Ok maybe not our only sun but another star would do as well.

No kidding? We need to figure out how that thing sucks energy from the sun..
