RE: The Steemit Tragedy of The Commons

in #steemit8 years ago

You know what i see. I see 3000 steemians sitting on posts with multiple browsers open waiting for the 30-minute mark. Got be a better way than that. You really think those steemians are reading those posts in their entirety and not speed reading to make a half ass related comment. I tested that for 2 days to see the rewards difference, I felt each time I attempted to do it I was trying to game the system I hated it. Felt guilty as fuck. So even though I need the money as much as the next guy there is no way in hell I will roll like that.
I will take my time and search for great content and vote when I want and enjoy the posts, if I get 0.02 instead of 0.2 I will gladly sacrifice.

As for the copy and paste, i can't see any reason it should be allowed full stop. Who cares if you provide a link. It is not your work. Get creative or actually take the time and read all the posts that contain all the material then learn something then post it in your own words and make it an original post, FFS a copy and paste is just damn right laziness.

Sort:

Preaching to the choir, my friend. Been saying this for 5 weeks. Copy and paste is bad enough when people are taking content outside of Steemit and profiting handsomely, but there are users taking successful original posts within Steemit hoping to profit. It's a drain on the time and money of those that are attempting to clean it up. We need new users to see that Steemit is NOT a place to copy and paste since that is a dead end for the platform. It can't survive if it supports copy and paste and plagiarism and so-called sharing of links. The many users that are creating content will be incentivized to create less than their best work because it simply won't be worth their time to do so.

Also, by the nature of things making big rewards - practically random at times - there is that additional pressure to not put as much time in to your post. Just post up some semi-plagiarized or derivative content and cross your fingers. I've relegated my account to strictly commenting on injustices and ferreting out abuse as I can't bring myself to post anything I'm not populating with entirely my own creations. From writing to illustrations and photographs. If I didn't make it and think of it, I'm not posting it.

I'm so glad you have principles. We need to support people with principles, because isn't that the world we should strive to live in? Reward those things that we want to see in our society and that's what we will get. Keep relying on economic incentives and people will be selfish. There is a balance that can be struck, I hope. We aren't there yet.

Yep, waiting for 30 minutes seems silly, there must be a better way that is also anti-bot. Bots voting on something 30 minutes after, is much simpler than a human waiting, anyway.
Why should we be trying to game the system, we should be trying to enjoy content here!

And thank you for agreeing with me on copy paste!
