So I noticed Coinbase has steem listed in its watch list, from my understanding if we want to get it listed Ned/Steemit Inc just needs to start the process.

I get the impression that Ned and Steemit Inc are completely hands off when it comes to exchanges.
That is a great point. This is why we need someone else to do it. Like witnesses.
