Just wow! What a fantastic story @sultan-aceh and immense serendipity for me. This is my first day on Steemit ( hat tip @lloydavis ) I could not have found a warmer, more authentic, humbling and inspirational post to read. I'm so stoked!
What's the serendipity here?
Well, one of the smartest friends I have is Norwegian (he's working at Elastic Search right now), he is the only reason I own Bitcoin. He wouldn't stop calling me (for 3 months) until I bought some. He first told me to buy bitcoin on the 1st January 2013 (so we share a same day anniversary of Norweigan inspiration @sultan-aceh ) If I didn't hold BTC I probably wouldn't be the newbie steemonian I am today.
Next up (in this serendipitous miracle), I'm blessed to have visited Indonesia. I was based in Jakarta (which blew my mind) but we took a day trip by plane to Aceh (we had metal knives and forks in economy class I remember).
Me before grey hair and a ship, marooned 5 miles inland by the tsunami in 2004.
In Aceh, we (Tag International Development) were hosted by a medical professional group who were sharing their monetary problems paying for the maintenance of the hospital that was built and funded by the Germans (I think) after the tragic events of 2004. They had run out of money and the hospital was starting to go into decline, tragic really.
Before we went to the hospital though we were taken to the TDMRC http://tdmrc.unsyiah.ac.id/en/ it was there that I shed some tears and was stricken with fear for the future, should a tsunami strike again.
This post provides me with new positive insights of Aceh and of the human spirit that exists on this platform. Wow @xpilar inspirational stuff man. I'll be following you for sure. One question @xpilar before I say goodbye for now... Hvor var du da Oddvar Bra brøt sin stolpe? happyfriday
