It really is possible. When we went to Steemfest2 this year, we blogged for the entire week completely from our phones. Here's how we did it...
It’s 3 pm. And I’m in town with @teamhumble, sitting across from me. He’s also blogging but via laptop, which I also do often, but this time, I knew we were going to be picking up supplies and I wanted to keep my bag as open as possible.
Today my kit includes:
// iPhone //
Yes you can blog while eating pizza! And if you're lucky your post might even PAY for your pizza. What a world we live in. Blockchain power mozzarella consumption... brings a tear to my eye...
// Lil' Foldy //
My wireless Bluetooth keyboard, great for typing and looking like a secret agent in coffee shops and hotel lobbies.
// Zee BatteryPack //
image courtesy imore.com
Because when they wrote Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy they forgot to mention that along with towels, an extra 20,100mAh battery is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have…
// My Brain //
*Optional.
Now, I think personally, that it’s a bit tricky blogging straight into steemit.com when you’re mobile, so I prefer a markdown editor, and my markdown editor of choice is..
// Bear //
It’s clean and get’s out of my way when I just want to type and it syncs across all devices so I can pick it up on my main machine later!
(that’s actually what I’m doing right now, you didn’t notice that we switched space and time did you?! It’s actually about 3 hours after I started this post, and we’re back in the van clacking away at our respective computers before we chill down for the evening- blogging man, what a time machine!)”
Another secret weapon you may want to consider adding to your mobile blogging arsenal is
// Cloud Drop Pro //
Cloudapp allows you to upload photos from your phone and spits out that lovely direct link you’ll need to add your photos to your post using Steemit.com. If you use Esteem, you’ve already got a mobile uploader right there ready to go for you- sorted mate!
// Text Expander //
Text expander is another killer app that I personally use for my footers- it also syncs across all your devices, so for example, here’s my footer code..
and all I have to do is type "!footer" and BAM! There it is faster than a butter-slicked bullet train. Crazy useful on desktop, when using it on mobile you'll be thanking the QWERTY Gods.
Esteem, you’ve already got a mobile uploader right there ready to go for you- sorted mate!
// Steemify //
Of course, Steemify is a killer little workhorse of an app that makes sure you’re notified when a particular account posts, when you’ve got replies waiting and when you’ve been upvoted, mentioned, received comments...ect. It’s not necessarily built to help you draft your posts out, but if you’ve got a serious reply session ahead of you, setting up in ye olde coffee shoppe with that Bluetooth keyboard life will have you caught up in no time courtesy of our very own steemians @blockbrothers & @exyle.
// Wifi Map //
The lovely thing about drafting your post out on an app like Bear, is that if you can’t find a wifi signal, or you don’t have cell service a wifi finder app such as Wifi Map Pro is incredibly useful because you’ll often find the passwords to locked signals nearby as well as a map of where they are around you. You can even add the password from the coffee shop you’re occupying in order to other help other sad, cold and lonely digital nomads who are out there without connections…. AHEM!!!
The very last little tool is a fun little card-based app called...
// BrainSparker //
Now I've just started using this one, but I think it could be really helpful if you felt stuck about what to blog about! The app presents you with a random shuffle of cards, you choose one and you're presented with something that may spark some pretty cool creative writing...
And that’s about it!
And the end of the day all you really NEED is your phone, a mobile keyboard and you’re off to the races to at least draft something out or jot a few ideas down, but if you want to go the extra mile, and really be set, or if you’re going on a long trip and want to be able to blog, but don’t want to lug your computer around it CAN be done, as I said, I survived all of Steemfest 2 in Portugal without my computer, and if I can do it, you CERTAINLY can.
If you’ve got any questions about my little tips and tricks for keeping it simple while traveling or while needing to blog mobile, hit ya girl up in the comment’s below and I’m happy to help!
As always,
Technologically Yours

quality post biza, get those mobile power tools! :)
Thank you love! Most of those apps I'd have no clue about if it weren't for you- as a token of my appreciation, the proceeds from this post shall go to our next trip to The Dog ;) <3
oh that's a deal! tomorrow then! lol.
Thank you for mentioning the Steemify app we made!
Thank you for making such a bad ass app! It's becoming one of my daily drivers :)
Oh yeah, I crave the day when I can post on the fly like a pro, like you. You've inspired me to search deep inside myself and find the secret steps to getting there: (1) toss my lame-ass phone; (2) buy a real phone; (3) re-check @dayleeo's mobile blogging checklist. There, now I can breathe. ;)
LOL Please don't let my post trigger any deep-seeded tech inferiority complex @cabelindsay! - I totally get that not everyone has the "gadgets" (sometimes by choice which is awesome for me, it's about making the gadgets I do have, work to maximum capacity in order to give the ol'tired noggin a break!
Really trying my absolute best this year to focus on just one thing at a time, keeping multiple strands from running. For me that means building in as much structure to wrangle my "all over the place-ness" as I can haha.
As soon as you have a structured way to post it becomes like muscle memory, and THATS where the speed comes in. I have a LONG way to go no doubt, I'm way to precious about my gif selection, the formatting and the cover image design at times. One step at a time <3 Glad now you can breathe ;)
I'm just giving myself a hard time for being kinda cheap. My phone is a Windows phone, and I've rocked it over a year with the most affordable plan I've seen anywhere. It lacks certain essentials, and so that just sucks. But one day, I'll upgrade.
Understandable! Just a note- all these tips work just as well with a cheap pre- loved iPad ;) no service required, just WiFi - that way u can keep your simplicity and your cheap plan ;)
NOTE: Looks like the Amazon link for the bluetooth keyboard is busted... if you're interested THIS LINK will take you there... I promise!
Oh awesome post! Super helpful, will definitely be looking into adding some of these things to help out with blogging on the go!
Awesome! That makes me so glad to hear @polebird, happy to have been of service <3
Wow! That’s intense. Got a lot to learn! Thanks for the post.
Happy to help if you have any questions, I promise it's less intense than it seems! haha
Awesome! Keep it up!
thank you my friend!
A bunch of great info here and much needed for a minnow like myself. Right on!!!!
Happy to assist the TigerBunny and happy to help if you've got any questions! Steem on friend! <3
Wow, this is suuuuper helpful!! I didn’t know about most of these apps. Especially that footer thingy!! Thank you!
For some reason I don’t get steemified when someone resteems my posts... I don’t even see it in the settings... 🤔
Speaking of steemify... i follow you there so i've been seeing all your posts, but then I came to desktop and realized i hadn't been OFFICIALLY following you!!?! HOW CAN THIS BE!!?- I'm sorry for my blasphemous actions, I have taken the necessary steps and corrected my wrongdoing <3 ;)
😱😆
Same thing has happened to me a number of times.
<3 haha thanks for understanding, I was outraged when I realized lol
you're right! it's not there is it... I was probably confusing with esteem- going to edit the post now <3
Oh I had no idea esteem did that. I just switched it on there!
Nice! I was really rooting for esteem, but it made some things way too dificult and it's rarely updates- hope it gets better, or we get an official steemit app soon- wasn't that mentioned at steemfest? or am i imagining that
Great ideas, but I have a stupid phone. No tricks. No apps. Maybe I need to move forward...
If your current set up works, and you dont need to be "on the go" so much, I say stick with what works, although it is nice to have a decent little camera and posting machine in your pocket wherever you go ;)
Great post, didn‘t know about the majority of your suggestions.
Awesome! I didn't go into too much depth about each because I didn't want the post to be too overwhelming, so if you have any specific questions feel free to let me know and I'll do my best to answer them!
Cool and useful post! And thanks for mentioning Steemify ofcourse!
Happy to spread the word, you guys are doing an awesome job!
This will all be a must have during the next steemfest, but i think i will prep some post before going them write a few post about the event afterwards.
YES! That's also a huge tip- for steemfest, I prepped all of my cover images and gifs beforehand, because I knew I wouldn't have access to photoshop or canva, It's super helpful if you have a series you know will all have the same formatting just to set them all up in Bear or any other note editor, that way you're only responsible for filling out the middle bits :)- Nice to see ya @kubbyelizabeth!
Very true, are you planning on attending the next steemfest? Im hoping it is in the US or Australia. That would be lovely!
I have a feeling it's going to be in the US but it was so fabulous this year, I'd go to steemfest in a cardboard box if @roelandp planned it.
That gelatinous brain is going to give me nightmares... daymares... and some morningmares too ☺
Wow, you've got all the tools, I'm way too primitive over here!
Are our brains really that jiggly?? I know mine usually feels that way in the mornings - hope no one smacks my forehead! 😰
Thanks for the tips and tool recommendations! I will look into them to up my blogging.
Happy to be of assistance @jdhenry!- Thanks for stopping by!
Gotta resteem this so useful, thank you
@nikko2192
Thanks for that! Glad you found it helpful @nikk2192! Happy to help if you have any questions about any of these :)
Wow! Thank you so much for pointing out these apps! The way that I do things now feels kinda stagnant and behind the times in comparison...LOL. It takes me way too long to actually get stuff done...that I become super tired halfway though...and that no doubt effects the quality. Will definitely check out BEAR and TEXT EXPANDER....and BRAINSPARKER! <3
YES! That's the biggest thing I've been learning about blogging, You have a set amount of energy every dya, and that burn rate is totally up to you, the more automation you can have on your side, the more you can focus that energy on what really matters, - writing a killer post- I try to have templates and a structure so that I can just fill in the blanks and not have to worry about the formatting <3
If you have any questions about those, always feel free to give me a holler @creativesoul- happy to share what's taken me a long time to pick up, so that someone doesn't have the same struggle journey I did lol <3
I am always on mobile and blog using my smartphones since 2012.
What I do here is draft as SMS or from iPhone mailbox while offline and copy/paste on my Wordpress blog online to add media there then copy/paste at steemit.com or at busy.org.
Will try the tools you mentioned above too. 👍
Hey, whatever works! It's about finding a flow that doesn't interrupt your writing for me, so whatever that is is always going to be your best option- Thanks for your comment @pinay!
Very useful :-D thanks for sharing ! I am now following you :D Hope to read more tricks like that !! :-)))
Thanks for that @roxane, & thanks for the follow! I aim to be as helpful as I can here- if you have any requests let me know :)
Ah you kids today got it easy! https://perfectpath.co.uk/2008/09/16/nomadic-blogging/
There are certainly more mobile tools now yes. Easy? Not so sure- Higher levels, bigger devils is what I say-
but regardless, much respect and props for the trailblazers who had to struggle through in order to bring us the conveniences we have today. 👌🏻
Quality piece of writing. I have a little bit bigger on my battery pack i have RavPower 26800 usb -c PD which can cover the power supply for you and two other bloggers so perfect for blogging over pizza!! And ofcourse the must have a quality pair of earbuds mine at the moment are nuheara iq buds which allows me to listen when i want to and close off the world by the tap of an ear.
I actually quite prefer @teamhumbles 10,000 version of the power core that I have, at a certain point you're sacrificing the "packing light" concept and might as well just bring the damn computer lol!
True, but if you did take the laptop too it could charge it also. Hopefully they will be able to reduce the bulk of the power packs some day soon.
Hope we don’t run out of lithium before that! #saveuselon
Ha ha yeah. I think they will need to find something soon if samsung is going to fit out all their phones with the ASIC chips they are making.......... imagine that mining btc on a galaxy..... think what that’s going to do to battery life
you mean, imagine vulnerabilities allowing someone else to mine on everyone elses galaxies, and yes. lol. I'm way too paranoid to own an android phone, although apple isnt much better at this point
Yes i could forsee that getting very messy
Yes i could forsee that getting very messy
this post is a superhero just like you! massivly helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you love! Hope it wasn’t too overwhelming, lol I’ve neber been accused of being too minimal I’m afraid
I think your minimal blogging style is super bad ass! I think of all the people I read, your blog is the cleanest and most professional. I have already learns so much from you <3
Daw thanks love, I am quite obsessive over formatting which is why some posts take me an embarassingly long time to put up- so I'm glad easy on the eye posts are noticed and appreciated- sometimes i thinkim in my own OCD bubble over here lol
There is a very obvious difference between your posts and most others. They are very beautiful. Your extra work is very noticable.
Super kind of you to say - the encouragement means a lot @livemovedbysteem- so thankful for you!
Nice post. Upvoting this comment as the post is 7 days old. I have bookmarked this post. I will revisit this when I start travelling and steeming on the go start May this year.
I see that you have replied to almost every comment that you have received on your post. How much time do you dedicate to blogging and replying to comments each day? Would help decide if it makes sense to take it full time while travelling. It would be interesting if hotels and restaurants start accepting steem as currency so that travel bloggers don't need to move out of Steem ecology at all :P
Thanks for the thoughtful upvote @goklunk, Yes the more places that decide to take steem the better! Especially for the price (which could use some help at the moment!)
I'm not what I would consider "full time" by any means but I spend at least 2 hours a day, blogging/replying/and interacting on other folk's posts-- hope that helps!
This is all great advice! Currently in Mexico and trying to get my blogging game back up and running...
Yes! If u have any questions always feel free to hit me up @amyinautumn I’m such a fan of your writing gotta get those stories out there! 💕
should I buy some smart phone now :)
that is entirely up to you my friend
Hi greetings from me @ khalil380 I am happy with you with your post I hope you can help vote & follow me
greetings!
Thank you for always replying to us help each other friends upvote & follow My
Aha, so maybe I should use some of them.
As for the text expander, after creating a footer, you just put "!footer" in the draft on Steemit and it automatically puts in those texts?
Also, that bluetooth keyboard looks cool indeed. I think imma buy me a bluetooth keyboard asap. 😁
Right! So in text expander you get to choose the trigger - a lot of mine start with ! Just so I don’t accidentallly type it unless I really mean to haha
I love that little guy and he stays charged for months- definitely an old faithful ! - thanks for stopping by @artgirl
I see. Cool.
Can't seem to find something like that bluetooth keyboard here haha.
have you tried amazon.com (or amazon in your area) that's where I got mine
Hmmm yeah i guess i could try that. Thanks!
@dayleeo The amazon link in your post seems to be broken. Can you share the Amazon link once again?
NP! thanks for the heads, up!
https://www.amazon.com/iClever-Wireless-Rechargeable-Bluetooth-Smartphones/dp/B01JA6HG88/ref=sr_1_16_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1517942985&sr=1-16-spons&keywords=iclever+keyboard&psc=1
WOW... that's really helpful advice! I've been turning to my laptop more than my phone for Steeming. I agree that Steemify is great for notifications but limited in many ways. It's a great start. A Back button would be a huge improvement. I'll take a leap of faith with eSteem and several of the other apps sound like they'll make writing easier. Thanks!
No worries! Glad I could lend some suggestions!
Thanks girl! I do nearly everything from my phone so this is waaaaaay helpful! Now I can be a pro :p
Heck yes!!! I’m someone as on-the-go as you can put these tools to really good use!
Cool and very helpful tips @dayleeo. With me lugging the kids from home to school to shops. I also have the bluetooth keyboard but not the foldable kind. Now trying to search app alternatives for android. Thanks so much for this!
That's awesome, you go girl! Thanks for the comment and kind words @raquelita
You're welcome @dayleeo. Looking forward to more helpful and interesting stuff from your blog. Thank you also very much!
Wow - your mobile tech skills completely leave me in the dust. I'll have to get one of those keyboards for sure - as well as a new phone with room for more than four apps!
haha bit by bit! I wish someone would make a USB typewriter with an ipad dock at the top, that way you could get the tactile feel of writing on one, but it would be converted digitally... damn if I was a millionaire the ways id waste my money on hair-brained schemes lol
I think I've seen something like that actually, though I'm not sure it was for sale! The guy did a ton of wiring with contacts beneath every key, wired into an Arduino board or something that went to a USB connection. It wasn't the most portable device but major points for style!
ahaha that's awesome ,hey whatever does it for you and helps you get the thoughts out of your brain, I've always thought John Mayer to be a bit of an airhead but I really like what he said about his reasons for using a typewriter in that documentary
Thanks for the valuable tip ; I will try the app for uploading photos ; by the way the eSeem app is
Great . Have a nice evening . dayleeo
Thank you friend!
It’s been 6 months you posted but it still helps. :) thank you for your information!!:)
wow @jisoooh0202 ! Thanks for that, really means a lot! :)
