HOW DO STUDENTS PASS EXAMINATIONS TODAY?

I remember years back when I was in school, as we prepared to write WAEC; yes, it was WAEC alone then. NECO came much later. And classes were " Form 1 to Form 5". JSS and SSS took effect after we graduated.
Preparation for discipline started in Form three. I had seventeen subjects to deal with then. In Form four, one will decide to go for science, social science or arts. I love science and went for science but included Literature because I love acting. My father wouldn't buy the Literature books and so, I was disallowed. I love science because I love short or one word answers instead of long stories. Chemistry is the subject that first attracted me to science.
Back to what I was saying, it was common practice to see students huddled together solving problems especially calculations. We took coffee, put legs in bucket or bowl of water, paced the floor just to keep awake to study during CAT or exams. Sometimes, we took turns, sleeping one hour each at intervals. We competed to be the best in subjects. It was a shameful thing to fail in a subject or repeat a class. It was the era of 'burning midnight candles' .

The opposite seems to be what we're seeing these days. How many students have the time study in the day time, let alone night time? I asked one student two years back who was writing WAEC, the subject he had next, he didn't know. Amazingly, a girl missed one of her subjects in NECO because she didn't know the date. Then comes the question, "How do students pass their exams these days ?" Are we parents helping? My niece is living with my younger sister. She was constantly on Facebook and writing WAEC and NECO . I asked my sister to seize her phone. She told me she had seized about three phones before but her parents will always buy another one for her. Her result? I don't know, I can't tell!
Let parents do their part in telling their children how we did and made it without cheating. Thank you.
