I still don't know enough of Steemit ecosystem to have an opinion about whales and other things of the site. I have a feeling that it is a quite unstable system specially. Sometimes the difference of a post succeeding or failing is the vote of one person. It can be quite confusing for a beginner. That being said, it has a lot of potential, and seems to be working. Maybe with future updates they can protect it from the inevitable competition that is going to emerge in the near future. Great post!
