The past few weeks have been a crazy whirlwind journey for me, especially on Steemit.
If you have been following me for a while, you'll notice that my postings have become lesser and fewer as well.
During this interim, I was experimenting and looking for other avenues to substitute my revenues earned from my daily posts.
So I joined Curie, and Smartsteem to try and see if I can earn faster (if not more) than publishing posts on a daily basis (without help from initiatives like Sndbox).
Here are my key takeaways:
- If you love curating and has solid, hardcore strategy on sniffing out awesome content, you should consider volunteering for Curie or other curation guilds like OCD, Buildawhale, etc. They have different payment scheme but rest assured, you're rewarded for your efforts. Many Steemians are vying to be a Curie curator but it's a rat race to see who gets to the better content (and propose it) first. The reward for approved posts is 10 STEEM. - Most bid bots these days like Buildawhale and sneaky-ninja have their own team of curators. For sneaky-ninja, you get to earn 1SBD per approved post and their guidelines are not as strict as Curie's. The point is you get paid in STEEM/SBD for the time you invest in helping them. Opportunities are everywhere; if one is not your cup of tea, you can opt for another.
Other means of revenue:
Helping out bid-bot teams to regulate the Steem ecosystem. By helping, you can either curate or report abuse to the team so they can eventually remove the paid votes from the abused posts. Means of communication is usually via Discord.
Report plagiarist and copycats to Steemcleaners (and get paid in the process). *To file an abuse report, here's the direct link.
Should you delegate or even sell votes?
Three rules of thumb which I learned from @therealwolf, and if you're already a Steemit veteran, you'll probably notice these too:
- If you're actively using your SP (Steempower), you should sell your vote. *For vote calculation, see here.
- If you're just passively investing in Steemit without creating contents, best is to delegate your SP.
- If you want to make sure that a portion of your SP is being used productively and make a profit while doing so, again delegate your SP.
Word of warning
I have been receiving questions and applications for Smartsteem (SS) and I must say, while the response was tremendous and the community is supportive, it's quite a challenge to penalise every single abuser.
It takes us longer than usual to clear the backlogs because the we have tens of hundreds applications coming in for whitelisting. *For more info on getting whitelisted, read here
That's why we choose to report to Steemcleaners (SC). Yes we will report to SC if you have violated the no-copy-and-paste condition.
Why are we doing this when we're already blacklisting the users on SS? Unlike SC, we do not flag these users on the Steemit platform, but the SC police will.
At our end on SS, we blacklist plagiarists, remove bought votes from their posts if we find them abusing the system, and un-whitelist contents that we find unworthy.
By definition of 'unworthiness', it's either the profile is too new for us to gauge any quality content from the author, or it's just Dmania all the way.
I mean, it won't be fair to other creators who put in tonnes of efforts into their content creation right?
Don't take my word for it, try out various ways to decide which work best for you on the platform and see if you like being either a curator or creator and hopefully not a copycat.

For a lot of time on the Server I see so many great undervalued messages. And I also decided to try his hand at curating. But in fact, it has been difficult for me. Probably need to have special qualities to do this job. This is not as easy as it seems at first glance. That's why I respect your work. You are doing a good job by helping newbies. And you deserve to be rewarded for it. And for me, the most suitable option is still to create your own content. But since I tried my hand at curating, my blog has become better and more interesting. I learned important criteria for great content, and I began to apply them in my work. So that experience proved very valuable for me. Good luck with your work!

Are there any kind of curie that is photography related?
And your curie community give more emphasises on worded posts? Or you guys also curate posts that are related to videos and audios?

Somehow longer posts tend to garner attention esp if it's interesting. But there are shorter posts that got curated too so I guess it depends on the quality of info. For photography, it should have an interesting story behind those photos, and you should let the pictures do the storytelling as well. As you can see in the link, I've given you, those kinda pictures will most likely get Curied, 'cause they're exceptional.
Even if you're not actively using your SP, you can sell you vote and delegate. Actively using here in this context would mean power down to cash out. Because with lower SP, it doesnt make sense to delegate anymore. In this case, you can always utilize your voting power to gain interest when selling the votes.

I am right there beside you- I love curating and have started doing four curation posts a week of my own, continuing to find great posts for muxxybot, started looking for some posts for curie and continue to write for qurator. I think curation is in my blood!

I have been using SmartSteem a lot from the bots, to buying and selling my votes.
When I went on a holiday I sold my votes to be able to maximize my SP and earning some while I was offline and having fun.
IS Smartsteem hiring for curators and moderators hahaha?
Hello busy @deborism! It's been awhile! Geng that you're part of curie and smartsteem now! Learning to curate is actually one of the skills on Steemit. And i'm glad that you've found some extra revenue through these.
Thanks @deborism, informative article. Curie has been a great way of getting my content out there and I'm searching for other curation methods similar to @curie. Perhaps I'm viewing this wrong, but I just haven't been able to develop a comfortability with the pay bots (eg: buildawhale), I personally just don't see the as tools for equal promotion (ie: they favor those who have the $ to purchase access to the curators).
Does anyone have an argument against the above? Also, is anyone aware of other projects similar to either @ocd or @curie? I like those models the most...
Congrats on your recent Curie @danielshortell. Love your story there :) Anyway, you're not viewing it wrong. Just from a different perspective and I understand where you're coming from. I've spoken to few Steemians before and some of them chose to use bid-bots so they'd appear trending. That way, it's easier to garner a steady stream of followers.
For me personally, I have nothing against using bid-bots but the content has to be worthy and good in the first place. Because I realized that there are so many hidden talents on this platform- waiting to be discovered.
I only have huge issue with those who create crappy content and abuse the bid-bot system so they can reap rewards from it. So not cool.
There are a few projects of curation but so far, not as strict as curie. Even OCD is quite lenient as long as the content is good. (Curie's requirement for content curation has to be exceptional, with the author being unrewarded for the longest time ever)
Other initiatives include @newbieresteemday, @steem-ambassadors, @sneaky-ninja, @buildawhile (sneaky-ninja and buildawhile's latest curation project- totally non-bid bot-ish), and as those you mentioned, Curie and OCD :)
I'm sure there are a lot more out there. Just these few that I know of.

After saw your recommendation about Smartsteem and Smartmarket, I started to use the service :) but then the smart market has limited vote seller (since lately I didn't get the amount that I paid for, but refunded).
It is true that besides just based on writing, diversify our contribution to the community will relatively increase our value on the platform. Keep it up! It is truly tiring and time consuming but worthwhile :)
Yeah those figures are dynamic @kimzwarch, sometimes it changes fast too depending on the number of vote sellers and Steem market at that time. These few days the Steem market is kinda low, which kinda affect the ecosystem altogether
True, things are slowing down. Anyway, it is a temporary thing too I believe.

I don't think you need bid bots since you're under the sndbox initiative :) plus bidbots are not really bringing in profit these days- more like losses. Have a look at Smartsteem and their delegation model. I personally liked it 'cause it's more like a FD business model @elizacheng

Regarding delegate or selling SP to smartsteem, what is the minimum SP you will recommend one must have in their account so that they still able upvote some contents? 50,100,500? Of course, right now I don't so have much yet, just asking for future references.
You can delegate at any amount it's up to you :) @williamsyee. Smartsteem has a calculator where you can calculate your profit after delegation. Sure, it's not much at first (low SP, lower payout- makes sense) but it's better than nothing ... works very much like an FD.

It doesn't need to anymore @ronyxoxo :) If your website runs on WP, @howo came up with an amazing plugin called the Steempress. You should try it. If you use Steempress, you don't have to worry if it's a duplicate content and you will be flagged by Cheetah. At least so far no one's gotten tagged and flagged yet. :)

If I had the time to comb through steemit I would definitely consider being a curator. I am hoping I can start doing that in a few months when start doing steemit full time. For now I feel the best option for me is to sell my vote. I however, haven't done it yet.

If it doesn't for you, hey you can always go back to creating awesome content :) There's something for everybody on Steemit.
