GIVE SEGUN BACK HIS LIFE
He stood like others around him, took up the shovel at about 12:30om (Nigerian Time) to mix cement, sand and water together and felt a sudden heaviness all over his body. He could not stand nor twist his body neither could he hold the shovel and like a man shot by an unexpected bullet, he fell down flat not knowing what was happening. His name is Segun.
Segun
Segun with fellow students
Segun is the last child from a family of four. He attended a reputable institution in Osun State Nigeria. During his first year, he was implicated in the examination hall and had to be rusticated. He was not ready to give up and applied again. He got admitted and was glad to return back to school even though he was a year below his original school mates.
Since he was admitted to study thesame course he was studying before he was rusticated, he decided to put in more effort into studying. He did not come from a wealthy family so he went hungry on many days yet he never stopped keeping late nights to read and never failed to do his assignments aand he attended lectures at all times.
Segun was also a dedicated Christian. Despite his resolve to get best grades and school, he committed much time to attend church meetings and even became a worker in church. He was loved by all for his zeal and passion for the things he did.
Ill fate began in the month of December 2013. He returned home after first semester exams and decided to go do some menial jobs to raise fund ahead of resumption. He joined with a bricklayer and like a “panter”, off he went with the strength of a deer.
About mid-day, while he was busy working like all others, he suddenly felt heaviness all over his body. He could not move his fingers neither could he move any part of his body. He lost strength and fell flat to the ground. He was rushed to the hospital immediately.
Doctors carried out their tests and diagnosed him of having bad spinal cord. He was placed on treatment immediately. However, money for hospital bills and drugs became unbearable for his parents, family and well wishers. The hospital management had no choice than to discharge him claiming there is nothing they could do any more about his health issue.
Segun has partly recovered. He can only move his fingers with which he makes calls but not fit enough to eat by himself. He still cannot sit up so lies down from morning till night of every day unless he receives help to sit and only for few minutes. He cannot return back to school because his admission has being terminated for the second time and even if not terminated, his unplanned disability will not allow him to fulfil his dreams.
It's almost 5 years since the attack on his health. The only major financial support he gets is from his mother who is a petty trader. His father has stoped supporting him and openly declared he prefers the death of Segun. GIVE SEGUN BACK HIS LIFE and let him fulfil his dreams.
