Esteem needs to access camera and WiFi Information?

Hi Steemians,

i just had the idea to install Esteem to get community access from mobile also...

....BUT...I do hesitate, cause I really don't understand why the app need access to my camera and WiFi Information ?!

Maybe someone can explain me, why these accesses are neccessary ? Are they ??

Yes I've noticed most apps now want access to just about EVERYTHING on your phone! Even my banking apps want camera, photos, messaging, etc... We compromise for convenience.

Actually, it is not always true that an app needs access to WiFi and pictures to be used. Often it is just to collect data about you, e.g. position, place, habits etc.
It is slightly different as example, but I remember that they made an experiment in London: they installed a free wi fi in a very turistic place (like Trafalgar square). To use it, you just had to accept the conditions. Easy, isn't it? Well, among the contract's details, they asked you to swap your children ! The experiment shows that none of us read the T&Cs and that accepting them criminals can use this connections to steal data and information about personal details, such as passwords or message contents. We should be very careful about what we download on our smartphones!

Stella Thanks ! I know its NOT neccesarry to have that acces, its comfortable for the user, but not neccesarry !
We have had same experiments here and people just not look into it, its scary sometimes.

Camera access allows you to take pictures and post them to Steem via mobile. Wi-fi access gives Steem permission to activate the Wi-Fi network (when available) as a connection to the internet.

Both of these are VERY common for social media applications that connect to the internet.

Im guessing maybe because it makes it easier to access the platform and makes it easier to post pics?

you dont need that to access the plattform i would say..

Camera means direct camera from the phone, btw this got in my interest a lot now.
