So I've been thinking about this for a while now and I wanted to throw the question out to you guys. Can we or should we post content from mainstream media/TV/movies/sports/music videos on DTube? The reason why I ask is because I see some people posting stuff like that on DTube. Personally, I consume a lot of content from YT just because of the vast availability of videos on there. You can look for a sports game, a highlight of a match, the super bowl commercials, movie trailers and much more. So here are my thoughts - I'd appreciate it if you share with us your thoughts! I'm sure there's a lot I'm missing bigly time.
- It can be good because then people will consume their the majority of their content on DTube
- It can bring a lot of heat to the platform because of copyright laws - can DTube get shut down?
- If people ARE posting stuff like that (which I do see) can it be deleted to avoid these giant corporations from coming down on DTube?
Please let me know in the comment below guys! I appreciate and look forward to your thoughtful feedback!

I think it's possible to add stuff like that without issues since you're adding the source in the description below.
I See this required indeed If we want Dtube to be a real alternative to youtube, we need to add different content type to attract more people on Dtube (Sport, TV, Movies, ...etc).
But It's all about copyright issues, you can mention the source of this video below and make edits on it and there will not be a problem.
This way works regularly with youtube, So I think it can work With Dtube too :)
That’s a good point!
@dnews I think Dtube needs to set itself apart from Youtube by not alowing people to upload other peoples content or flaging them because they initially will financially benefit from someone elses work.we do not want Dtube to Shut down because of such behaviour
That was one of my thoughts as well. My other question is. Can it be shut down? I mean...I guess they can shut down the website right? But can the steem blockchain get shut down? Total n00b question maybe for some of you out there. Upvoted you @wlson for your thoughtful comment.
@dnews im not sure if they can shut down the entire blockchain. Atleast There has to be some form of rules by which people should follow . for now we have to flag these type of videos i guess ,thanks for the upvote
That's the real question I guess right now, brotha. Should we flag them? But even if we flag them and they stay on the blockchain, can they shut down the Dtube site?
Here is several things coming to my mind:
First of all I dont think videos are stored in an actual blockchain. The file size would make that very impractical. As far as I know the blockchain only stores some information of who posts what. So the post stays in the blockchain while the video could get deleted. Also sites like d.tube and steepshot are basicly indipendent sites so they can hide stuff when they want to but the post would still be trackable on steemit.
Now, let me just say I am no expert on this topic by any means so I might be completely wrong with my conclusions. If somebody is better informed I would also like to hear it!
Upvoted for your brilliance. Thanks for clarifying! That makes sense :)
@dnews I watched a video just a few days ago explainig that there is a steem Bot that detects copied content and automatically flags them , and their content thereforth ensuring that what ever they post is flagged already .im just not sure of the video link but when i find it wil let you know.iv upvoted followed and just about to Resteem ☺hoping i can be lucky tomorrow
Yeah it's called Cheetah or something. Very smart way to name it! Lol "Cheatah" lol -- Pure Genius
While I agree with you on that fact that I do not support other people posting content that someone else makes, I do not believe the way is through Dtube blocking the users from uploading. It is up to us as users to self regulate the system and down vote/flag those videos, if you are against them. Going to dig deeper into the question form a legal standpoint and try and come up with some better answers to our question here.
@elderfinancial I'd love to see what your research discovers :) please share it!
Hey man,
A couple notes:
Overall, the platform would have to naturally and organically grow similar to how youtube started in its early days. Basic original content would have to be uploaded and influencers would have to come out to represent the platform. When it comes to legal matters, youtube took on the role of having the influencers become part of the organization since they have the ability to control their content. In this case, I think individual posters would have to take on copyright issues individually since the platform is not directly controlling the content. The people are.
Just putting it out there
Hey Chris (hey I've actually seen one of your videos! It's nice to connect :)
Okay, I'll reply per number (haha)
Thanks so much for an amazing insight bro. Upvoted you with some love @chrispy99
Hi,
Yeah, I think calling it Dtube News is a better choice. It’s more defined and less risk of it becoming liable for copyright. A bigger issue I forgot to mention for this platform is defining copyright with blended content. If someone outright posts videos that aren’t theirs, then it’s a clear answer but if it’s content with commentary, where’s the line. YouTube struggles with this constantly.
Just changed it! Lol
Yeah that's very true about YT. Not consistent. Probably because they have AI bots just demonetizing everyone.
First off there should never be any type of censorship of the platform in anyway, except through flagging and the people self regulating. From what I understand there is no way to stop any type of content from being posted, nor should there be. If individuals want to post copyrighted content, and possibly gain monetary value, if users choose to delegate their SP to that type of content, then those posters may suffer the ramifications of their illegal actions. I am unsure of exactly how legal action would be taken by the owners of the content, but I would assume they would target the individual and not the platform as a whole. Excellent question and content. Looking forward to viewing more!
Hey my brotha. Yeah something I've really been thinking about and your opinion is exactly what I was on my mind as well! Although there is some conflict. LOL - because I don't want DTube to get shut down and of course, wouldn't want people to face legal ramifications, you know...anyhow, thanks for the insights. Really enjoyed it! Upvoted you with some love, my brotha. @elderfinancial
in some contexts, I think it might be useful to not flag channels or uploads.
especially when there are many sources that post to YT and would never consider DT.
Gerald Celente, Ron Paul, Ben Swann, quite a few that Dtubers would benefit from seeing, but may not because they (like I) wish to avoid the google/yt hegemony.
Id flag offensive, flaming, anti-social stuff. But I care less about copyright stuff.
Thanks for sharing your opinion and your insightful thoughts.
So let's say someone made a channel called "CNN" and just reposted on DTube all of CNN's post from YT. You would still think it's okay?
Upvoted you with some love for making my brain think :)
no it's not ok but posting things like séries and manga ? it would be a great add to incrise the number of users on Dtube... plus the original owner could still follow the money and ask a compensation later no ?
It's a very hard one to call because I am guilty of watching highlights of football games on Youtube, but I am also a content creator and my music and videos have been ripped off before on Youtube which can be annoying and unfair.
Totally know the feeling! Because I can relate - I upvoted you with love 💯
Hmm. I’m commenting on dtube as we speak. What browser are you using? It might be your browser. I can upload to Dtube easily. The only thing I haven’t been able to do is upload from my phone. I’d love to see that be worked out or if someone has figured it out, please let us know! :D
I haven't tried it yet on a phone. I like to edit my videos and sprinkle a bit of branding in too. I'm using google chrome.
Part of me is wondering who will be the first mainstream media corp to adopt to DTube and when, but then I get the feeling this is going to spiral into the next big moral panic sooner or later.
You know...I was thinking about that the other day. What if CNN discovers DTube and then just starts posting on here and then going nuts on paid upvotes and stuff? They've got a lot more capital than maybe all of us here combined. Could it potentially be controlled by just buying it out? I don't know, but you just got an upvote for a very thought-provoking comment @luckey
The thing is that just anyone can do this. pay to get more exposure or just mass post a type of content that they have. the majority of the youtuber right now have like more than 50 vids on there chanel so a migration on Dtube when it'll came can only be but massive
My 2 cents is that if people could post copyrighted material on youtube and receive monetization why not here too. I'm not condoning stealing copyrighted material but at least 50% of what I watch on youtube is other peoples material. Dtube shouldn't be any different.
Hey! That’s along the lines of what I was thinking as well. A lot of the channels I watch are just re-edited non-original content. Lol
For great minds thinking alike you get an upvote of love 💵
I don't see why not, there is netflix and they are making a success. Streeming or watching content on DTube sounds like great fun.
But on another note do you prefer DTube or DLive? Reason why I'm asking is that I want to start a vlog but always strugling to upload to DTube?
Hmm, thanks for sharing your opinion :) to be honest with you a few months ago I had a lot of trouble uploading, but recently it's been really smooth. From time to time it does still stall (perhaps bandwidth or a lot of people uploading or just a broken internet connection), but all you need to do is re-upload and it should work the second time around.
Start doing some vlogs! :)
Start the vlog! Upvoted :)
I think it still takes the community too smart right now! :D
What do you mean exactly?
Hey @dnews, to me we should continue posting. I would like to add a quote here , that may be helpful to bloggers on this platform;
Why You Should Upvote Comments!!!!
I've noticed alot of people doesnt reward their followers, and their commenters on here.
It's a shame.
When someone takes the time to not only read your post but to leave a comment. Even throwing your small vote their way does a lot of great things...
They are More Likely To Follow You
I'm not saying you should upvote every single comment you get. I try and look for those that I feel provide value to the post. When they see that you upvoted their comment and they will be rewarded as a result. This encourages them to follow you; Then you'll have a regular on your post !
You can grow your followers so that they can grow you;
If they choose to keep their Steem in their account, They may power it up. If you continuously are upvoting their great comments, then they will steadily grow overtime. Their vote will be worth even more, and they'll be able to upvote you, The upvotes you gave them helps them grow, so they have more power on the platform.
Thanks a lot for your opinion.
$95 of STEEM Currency!!! 😱😱😱
DTube is SOOO much better than fckn YT!!!
Btw. nice Video, dnews!! 😘👍
Lol. I know it's crazy! Can't believe it sometimes. Trying to invest in some better equipment now and thinking of different ways to add as much value as I can and to help people also.
Thanks for the love. You get an upvote

perfect
your spam is perfect! 50% less fat! lol
Hahaha
Lol! I always check to make sure they’re legit comments
Also, just another question since you post a lot on Dtube. Do you find it hard to upload to dtube? It takes 10 attempts to upload a video on dtube, also I had to come to your steemit profile to comment on your video as the dtube comments don't work for me for some reason.?
Answered this question in our other thread, brotha :)
Thank you. I have thought about the same thing myself.
I'm still not sure what side I come down on. I'm not someone who uploads but I do watch videos which infringe on copyright on-line myself.
So I don't hate on it completely. That said I wouldn't want a family guy re-upload to get huge likes, I wouldn't mind if it had a medium amount of likes.
At the end of the day I am looking to watch these videos online and I'd rather do so on some kind of Blockchain model than Youtube or sketchy sites with nasty ads.
That's one of the reasons I find EOS really exciting. You could create a sub-community on top of EOS with the explicit purpose of trading these videos. That way you allow something that is already happening online to occur on EOS. BUT you could have separation between that content and other sub-communities.
Awesome, thanks for your input brotha :)
I can see that no one here has an answer to this question so certainly it's a fine place for an open debate. Personally I greatly Miss the exposure that I found on other platforms of content that was created by other than the poster. These posts and the sharing of those posts on those media platforms have exposed minions of people two alternative ideas that they wouldn't have come into contact with otherwise. Certainly there are copyright issues all over the place and even centralized platforms like YouTube running to conflicts regularly. I'd like to live in a world where information flowed free. On the other hand when I look at my social media feeds I find their content far more depressing then that which I find on steemit. The control of original information on steemit is limited, but then again so is one's exposure to ideas. I think that the Network's agenda is to Foster the free flow of information and to the extent I can help to bring that about, well I probably shall.
Actually I think that the roadblock 2 the free flow of information are the content creators and corporate interests trying to profit directly by controlling how their media is used. In the world as it is there's no direct way of dismantling the system. However it does seem possible that one can create smaller Networks with the free exchange of information in them that reside within the context of the greater Network in general. This process over time could Herald a new paradigm in the way that we think about these issues of command control and freedom.
