Steemit is NOT the Facebook killer, but the Reddit Killer

in #steemit8 years ago

I do not believe that Steemit is the Facebook killer like many are saying. Facebook is very different to Steemit. Facebook is primarily a way of keeping in touch with friends and chatting whereas Steemit focuses on posting stories with upvotes much like Reddit.

On Steemit, you can't add friends and you can't message them. Sure, you can follow, but that is completely different, because you don't need permission for a follow.

However, Steemit is just one of hopefully many social media websites that will run on the Steem blockchain, so who knows? Maybe an awesome Facebook clone will come out to compete with it that will run on the Steem blockchain.

Actually I disagree a little. I think it may be the death of facebook yes. And if the mobile platform goes live (on my iphone does not work), it could be the death of the instagram as well.

On facebook you have your friends. People post nonsense and things in their personal lives, and everyone enjoys it! Remembering that steemit in the future can undergo modifications! For example: implementing a chat between followers. (What happened in instagram). But even if you're right, we can kill: Twitter and Instagram also beyond reddit.

I think it still misses to steemit a little more publicity, but things are moving! I'm still learning ! I would like to know a way to track the number of registered users on the network. Can you answer me where I go with that?

If Steemit changes to become more like Facebook, then it has a better chance of killing it. Right now it's closer to Reddit than Facebook in terms of features.

Not sure how to view those statistics in real time, but here is an official Steemit blog post on its growth recently: https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitblog/state-of-steemit-big-changes-in-steemit-recently
