Stuck with bad rewards? Don't give up on the quality!

in #steemit7 years ago

As an early adopter of Steemit, I just stopped asking some pointless questions. I see many older and newer users still bothering with the ratio of the quality and the rewards. We use to see so much over-rewarded bad content, mostly created by the same people and when you think that you wrote a decent post worthy of respect, usually you don't get what you hoped for. I already became immune to the fact that one of my shitposts will get the same rewards as some of my great posts.

Well, I mentioned shitposts... It is kinda meaningless to try to define them because it is an expression on the network that exists longer than Steemit.

But funny, people on Steemit act like they invented that expression so you can find so much different definitions of what shitposts are. But since I saw many great shitposts that really made me laugh, I won't write about them today because this platform is full of two kinds of posts:

  • Shitposts
  • Posts against shitposts

Shitposts are not necessarily bad content, so let's just stick to the subject:

Your good post doesn't get more attention than your bad post!

There are three facts that I want to list here:

  • Steemit users post more than 50 000 posts every day (no comments included) and that is more than 350 000 every week.
  • On the weekly trending page, you won't find more than 150 posts rewarded with more than 100$.
  • The minority of users hold the majority of Steem Power.

This explains why are so many posts lost in the sea of content on Steemit.

If you are able to give big rewards to someone with your upvote, that means that you don't have time to scroll down through the network whole day looking for something good. So it is understandable that you'll have to work hard to get them to notice you.
It is really sad when we get a new, prospective user with the great ideas who immediately starts with super-quality content but nobody sees him. Luckily, there are some awesome organizations on the platform that work hard to find that content and reward it, stimulating the user to keep on with great posting. @curie is doing a great job finding new users, they have great hard-working curators and they helped to a lot of new users from my country which made me proud.

But still, so many great posts just sink down to the bottom of this sea and remain forgotten.

So if you came on Steemit full of self-confidence and strong will, you just might be disappointed. You wrote a 2000-word post and now it is ruined...

Now I'm going to list some facts again:

  • The number of words doesn't say anything about the quality of the post.
  • You can't just come here and expect that Steemit was waiting just for you all the time.
  • You ain't shit without your followers.

There are many newer users who made great posts when they started, they weren't successful so they turned to the shitposting. But there are also users who can take a photo of a dog taking a crap and they will earn that much that they will never think about making a proper post.

It's not just about who you are and what are you capable for, it's about who do you know on the network, who brought you here, and who will support you no matter what. But in case that you came here without a strong supporter, all you can do to make some success are...

BABY STEPS!

Instead of reward hunting, focus on building a strong fortress of your followers.

Many of you will say now that the number of the followers is not so important. I can be an example, I have almost 3000 followers but I rarely get more than 100 upvotes. So what's the point of having many followers? It is about the visibility of your content and someone's feed is much more powerful than some post-promotion room in some Discord server. Your content has to be intended for your followers and not for some large whale you're trying to catch. You, your followers, and people you follow grow together, slowly but secure. At first, you will get 0.06$ per post, after some time it will be 0.30$ per post and then 1.56$ per post. And when you grow enough to know that your next post will be rewarded, then you need to think about...

THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CONTENT!

That's right! One day you will start getting upvotes from the same people every day but they probably didn't even open the post! They already know that you deserved it, they will upvote you same as every day before, and some of them will generously reward you every day through some of the auto-voting services. Does it mean that you succeeded and now you can post anything you want and you will earn the same as every day?

NO!

It is true that many of us get the same rewards every day, but I don't think that we should reduce the quality now! The game is not over and the struggle continues! If you know that you will get those 4$ anyway, does it mean that you are allowed to start posting one photo and few words per post, after you got your followers by posting something great??? If you know that you will get some $ for your post no matter what you write, you have to justify your earnings by having your standards. Only that way, the number of your followers will be increasing more rapidly, as the chances that you will win the GRAND PRIZE!

Thank you!!!

Great inputs to continue the journey of Steemit from struggles to success and yes many newbies come with lot of hope and self confidence and they create excellent and extraordinary posts but we have to understand one thing that people cannot find your post instantly means it takes some time and you need the support of the big Steemians some time and never think that others are getting and you are not but first try to know that others have put that much amount of time on the Platform and some people have invested huge amount of their real money so you do your work with positivity and never stop posting the quality post and one day you will going to get the success for sure. Thanks for sharing and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

Thank you

Welcome. 🙂

Oh you nailed the song ;) I raise the stakes with this one :)

Stay far from timid, only make moves when your heart's in it and live the phrase: Sky's the limit.

Have a great day bro ;)

Excellent analyses and recommendations for newbies like me :)

Excellent analyses and recommendations for newbies like me :)

Some shits becomes classic, like PAC said.

Why?

Because the poster has deep pocket (investment) or he knows people most probably outside steemit who have.

Other than that, you have to grind it. Find a 'slow and steady' to encourage yourself with.

Thanks for the encouragement and reminding about trying to put out good content. I for one needed this advice.

Maybe few will listen, the most of them won’t

I'm pretty sure we've all been there and felt desperated 'cause of not being noticed at Steemit and you're right @dumar022 when exposing about the reasons why one's posts aren't easily read or seen by someone else.
That's why it's so important (at least for me) being able to create good content, no matter word count but good themes and value to the community. And that's why I'm in @thealliance, because they saw some good skills in me and value good content (that doesn't mean I have a secured place in this ship).
And it's also important to be motivated when creating content, finding the right support and providing the best of you in each word.

Thank you!:)

Congratz, your post has been resteemed and, who knows, will maybe appear in the next edition of the #dailyspotlights (Click on my face if you want to know more about me...)

Thank you @dumar022. I bet there is a temptation for really new people who are great Wiriters to start with the quick "shitposts" after awhile. But I think for me at least I take pride in my work. And sure it can be frustrating seeing little Rewards for quality. But I refuse to compromise my Integrity ( not to sound like my 'shit don' stink' lol. I'm not perfect but do try to have certain standards for myself)

That’s the attitude, thanks

I couldn't agree more.. In my case, I post what I want to post. Some might be shitty posts though like some photo experimentation and such... lol... But as much as possible, I want to keep the quality of my post especially for the Steemians who enjoy reading them.. hihi ^^ I am one of those people who upvotes without reading coz I know you deserve it, but if a post really gets my attention, I'll definitely read it... just like most of your posts! They're always so fun to read ^^

You post what you want to post and it’s always great

waaaa... I'm happy you think that! Thabk you! (≧▽≦)

Strong fortress indeed ;) Good write up buddy.

I like that you remind people that auto votes can be cancelled if the content is not up to par!!!
Visiting you from the alliance 😀

Heh. Well I got Curied twice, one big and one small payout from that. Other than that I haven't felt like posting too much quality content until I have as much followers as you maybe. 😁

Had some "wasted" posts when I was starting out. Oh well. At least there's the Deadpost initiative which can sometimes help u get something out of old posts.
