I like the thought of before there were any payouts. When people were just doing it for the content. What do you know? Those are the people earning the most right now :)

Yes this is very true. But what I love about steemit on another level, is it gives more power to the content providers themselves. In the Google ecosystem which most of us blogged or created videos within or whatever before, our futures and destiny's with what happened with our content wasn't in our hands - and google is king there. Here it's much more, open community and managed and maintained by community.
It's awesome isn't it? :) I love the flexibility of this platform. It's fantastic!
