OPEN UP PART 2-min.png

Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble - Frank Tyger

Thanks Frank. That's a pretty solid quote.

This is Part 2 of my 'Open up' series. If you haven't yet checked-out Part 1, the link is at the bottom of this post. If you have already gone through it, then let's proceed.

That's right. You heard me. Shut your mouth!
This can be quite easily misinterpreted, but I mean the more general approach when I say that. What I am saying is, don't just say things for the sake of saying them. It's a terrible habit that many people get into.

My mentor told me some really solid, indirect advice the other day. We were on a phone call talking about an investment, and he politely told me that he only opens his mouth when he has thought thoroughly about what he is going to say. His mouth is closed when people talk to him, and even now, after he has made 10's of millions of dollars, he tells me he values every single person's opinion to this date.
In other words, he was politely telling me to shut my damn mouth!

I'm not just here, saying all this stuff just to look cool. Everything I talk about in my content always relates to me.
The main reason for me making this post is because I am identifying my weaknesses. I am seeking where I can improve in my life. This topic is definitely a major step forward for me.
I am a very fast-paced person. I cannot listen to a story for too long without moving on. So, for that, I am definitely not the most patient person when it comes to listening. So don't worry if you feel a little guilty about these words I am accusing every guilty person for, because I am the most guilty!

But hey, it's not the person you are today who people remember you for, but rather the person you become!
Look, I have my own opinion on this topic too. I believe if you know what it is you want to achieve, and you know exactly what you need to do to achieve it, then it is your choice how you take criticism. However, I think the big part of this topic is more for the people who are seeking help. People who don't know 100% how to get the task done. If that is the case, then you definitely just need to keep your mouth closed, especially if the opinion is coming from someone above you in your level of success.

I want to encourage transparency here. That is why I am not afraid to be open about these things. A big inspiration for my transparency would definitely be @jerrybanfield. The man is so open about the things in his life, and the things going on in his head. I respect you for that, @jerrybanfield.
Let me know your thoughts in my comments section. I always reply to your messages.

So, when I'm training a group of people, I almost always ask that questions be held until the end of the program. I assure the audience that I will leave more than enough time for Q&A and that every question will be answered. Invariably, there will be several frowns cast my way.

I know that these folks are likely the ones who are not good listeners. They can't wait for the information or, more likely, they've been thinking while I've been talking and their questions are burning a hole through their skull.

I then tell the group that if they don't understand something I've said, please speak up immediately. There's a difference between don't know and don't understand. I don't want to leave anyone behind who may be confused by something I've said, or who may require a different example or analogy in order to gain full comprehension of what we're discussing.

The difference between the two is clear and yet we often lump questions into the same catagory. Active listeners more often than not ask clarifying questions once all the data is in. Inactive Listeners ask questions at the beginning, middle and end of presentations usually because their not fully engaged in hearing out the speaker.

I identified this practice in myself and have worked hard to be an active, almost intense, listener. It can almost be unsettling to others when I make full eye contact and say nothing while they are talking. It's kinda funny, really, but it tells me how infrequent they are really listened to. And that's a shame because as @enazwahsdsrb's mentor said, everyone's opinion is of value.

Wow this is quite a comment!

Thank you for your take on this topic. It was interesting to hear your view points. It's funny, because I am one of those people who's questions burn holes in my brain :D I have to be an active listener.

The thing is, sometimes being too active can get quite annoying for the person explain. On top of that, I have (personally of course) noticed that when I am super active with my mouth, I tend to start being the explainer, by habit, and not the one being explained to :D

I appreciate your opinion. Not 100% sure if you were sort of giving the other side of the story, but I definitely agree with both!

Posting my next series very shortly. Stay tuned. Talk soon.

"I believe if you know what it is you want to achieve, and you know exactly what you need to do to achieve it, then it is your choice how you take criticism."

It honestly took me years of being lost and then finally seeking professional help through psychotherapy to really know what I need to do to achieve.

Before that, it was all anger, anger, and more anger.

We do have verbal diarrhea and we also have doing-nothing-but-worthless-shit diarrhea, like lying down to use the phone at home.

We are not doing enough that's for sure. We are also listening to others way too much instead of following our own truth.

Nice one @enazwahsdarb. https://steemit.com/life/@aldentan/my-honest-and-ass-kicking-post-on-how-to-start-healing-from-depression-or-other-mental-illnesses Here's the post I wrote on my anger. It's deep. Would love for you to check it out.

P.S. Yo you look like someone I can really connect with and learn from. Is there a way I can connect with you? Facebook? Instagram (Following fyi.)

Nice view points brother. I like that.

It's cool to see how the various personalities in my readers are responding to different part's of this content.

I thought I just had to throw that line in there, because that is exactly how I feel. In the beginning, when you don't know enough, you need to listen-up. When you know, confidently exactly what it is you need to do, it's a different story. I'm not saying one may be ignorant at this point, but confidence is everything.

For me personally, I don't care who the person is, I would like to see myself being a very open-minded person. No matter what level of success I have. Whether I am homeless, or if I'm worth over a billion dollars, I would like to always remind myself that life is a constant learning process. On top of that, that I usually learn the most, from the least-expected situations.

I am on all social medias. My Instagram is HERE. But I never use them anymore. No interest haha. You can contact me on steemit.chat.

Nice input. Talk soon.

Thanks man.

Indeed. I heard a quote before, "Treat the janitor like you would treat the CEO."

That's respect right there.

Aight. I will hit you up on Steem chat.

So many people I know just repeat memes.
Yes, they seem to do it just to sound cool, or be in the know... just about ego.
The repeat what the talking heads said.

The people I like to talk to all listen to alternative news sources. And I do not know if it is because they all listen to different things, or if this sort of people actually think about their thoughts, but I never get the same ol' same ol' from them.

However, I must point out that our schooling has trained people to parrot the "correct" answer. The good boys and girls in the classroom just repeat what the teacher wants to hear. After graduating, the new "teachers" are the pundits on television.

I totally get what you're saying. It's weird how it's different strays of people from all over, each giving their own approaches. I have also noticed this.

I suppose you can also compare it to the difference between the people leaving one-word comments, versus paragraphs. Just different standards I suppose.

Yeah look, let's not even begin with the schooling system. It's just RED FLAGS everywhere LOL :D

Thanks for that. Talk soon.

@enazwahsdarb thanks for this wonderful post..in general ways, many ideas and thoughts on our mind..you just learn to listen for it,,let it flow..let it be free your mind on something new, something very usefull to create article that people may interested in based on their common thoughts.@enazwahsdarb i agreed with you we just keep our mouth shut and listen to yourself..

just be creative, let your words wisdom come to your mind let the spirit of peace and listen on the sounds of silence and breath, keep more ideas coming..

.it blows my mind to think what is right. try to meditate on your surroundings, keep your mind calm and seek your new ideas...new style the way viewers like to read.

trust your own ideas and make it more

simple but practical

i love your post.,

Bro.. This is insane! Such a load of effort in this comment :D

Very nicely said by the way. Love it. Upvoted for that reason!

Next time maybe just make it an independent comment, and not a reply :P Talk soon.

Well said!

Thank you

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.

I prefer to keep my mouth shut for most of the time in a conversation so that I can absorb what the conversation is offering and then carefully analyze what I learned so that I can give a proper reply.

I don't know where I heard or saw this but It was said that It's hard to find a good Listener while you can find an Announcer at every corner of the street.

So I like to be a Listener.

Agree with you @arunava maybe it is the way you are raised "Speak when spoken to" "Think before you speak" are just two phrases jumping into my head from childhood.

Good grounding for later life, too many speaking at once makes a choir and very little is achieved. If after 10 minutes you haven't got your message over, walk away, no one is listening.

Also tend to be a listener @enazwahsdard weigh up what to say before blurting just anything out.

Thanks for that my friend. I like your honesty! I like that walk away part, because many people tend to get lost, and spend way too much wasted time on something that doesn't even deserve it.

Talk soon.

Beast bro. Really awesome comment!I can definitely agree. You are a good listener! Really cool to see.

Nice for you to stop by :) Talk soon.

Ahhhh 😲 I actually forgot to leave a comment my deepest apologies my ManKing.. 😂hahaha
I agree with you and that quote is so true
Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble. Says so much.
Im a good listener and often have the time to really think things through before I open up.
But sometimes I must admit it can slip.
Great post and well said.
Talk soon

So nicely said Sara :) I appreciate how much effort you always put into your comments. You're too awesome :)

We need to grow some elephant ears :D

Talk soon.

Yes big elephant ears will grow bigger 😂lol
Always my pleasure my friend 🤗
Talk soon and have a good night soon bedtime. Cheers

even now, after he has made 10's of millions of dollars, he tells me he values every single person's opinion to this date.

Listen twice as much as you speak and you will be amazed at what you learn. As I mentioned it before, it takes a confidante person to be willing to admit they need help and seek wise counsel. Rocking the house with wisdom again!!

Thanks for sharing with us and making it fun to read.

Thanks for this epic comment my friend :) You're awesome!

Very nicely said, by the way. You sound just like me in your own explanation :D

Talk soon.

Great minds think alike:)

Agreed my friend, agreed :) By the way, my latest post is up. Go check out Zombie Zane :)

Talk soon.

Does this mean you have agreed to my requests?

Being blessed with two ears and one mouth is nature's way of reminding us that we should use them in the proportions they were given to us. Some of the wisest people in the room are often the quietest. Good stuff here, sir! I'll be sticking around to get more good vibes and motivation!

What a brilliant analogy. So well said. Thank for that :) I am glad you are getting that vibe from my content.

Talk soon.

Hmm, I also learned that sometimes what most successful people do does not apply for you. I mean, yeah it's good to listen but you also need to weigh those things if it will help you more effectively.

Definitely! Nice input. When I refer to listening, I mean for example if you are being spoken to by a mentor. Most people have something to respond with. Just absorb :)

Talk soon.

Yeah exactly!

Spot on, Zane!

You stayed up! What a real Lady-Boss :) Respect.

PS. What's your name? Talk soon.

Hi Zane, I cannot tell a lie - I woke up briefly and headed straight to your blog to see if you had posted. Read it, commented, U&R'd...then went back into a coma. And my name is Linsey 😊😊

Linsey, that is the most loyal thing ever!! :D Too awesome.

Talk soon.

What can I say? 😊😊

Well.. If we're brainstorming here, you could say 'Zane is the best author on Steemit', but hey, you did ask what you could say :D

Stay tuned. My next post-series will be up shortly. Talk soon.

Good one! 😂😂

Idk about you guys but when I was reading this, I pictured Samuel L. Jackson yelling this in my face lol

Nice :D Just imagining the guy yelling in your face, at the top of his lungs, 'SHUT UP!!!' :D

This was funny. Talk soon!

Opening up can be daunting but it is a brave, courageous, and rewarding way to approach life.

Totally agreed! :) Nicely described pink man.

Talk soon.

Thanks for your kind words!

Only a pleasure! Stay tuned. My nest post series will be out shortly.

Talk soon.

Sounds like fun, how do you decide what to post about? 😃

Don't even ask :D I must have God on my side, because sometimes I am so lost for thought LOL.

My new series is up. Talk soon.

Mostly i listen quitely first & if necessary than answer. Always think before speaking

Awesome :) That's the way to go!

I would consider adding a profile picture if I was you :) Talk soon.

So many have hindered themselves from learning new things, getting good advice and so on due to there unnecessary talking
Not every time talking should be your response to words, silence pays
nice post

Well said! If everyone gave a response, how would you know which was right :D Silence sure does pay.

Talk soon.

When you step into the gate of Steemit, you've some kind of opened your mind.

I was actually waiting for the 2nd part after reading 1st part of the series. But then I had to stay away from the social platforms etc. because I was implementing something I had thought of 4-5 months by opening up to a new idea, haha. Marriages in my society are one helluva job to get done with. Especially when you want to marry your own choice. So yes, one fine day I decided to open up about it and currently I'm going though the implementation phase. Fingers crossed! Do pray if that's your thing at all :)

Keeping your mouth shut is the first step to opening your ears. Ear-nose-throat are a one way traffic. You stop one to let the other flow. One at a time. And hey becoming what you become is the most important thing? DUDE I SAID THE DITTO TO ONE OF MY FRIENDS A FEW DAYS AGO WHILE MOTIVATING HER TO LIVE HAPPILY ONE AGAIN AFTER A CRUCIAL BREAKUP.

I've thoroughly enjoyed your post once again. Dude, you're good at what you're doing.
I am enjoying your content. Going to read rest of the series now :)
