Steemit Payout Analysis

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

A few major events have affected the Steemit payouts in April and May.

  • Hardfork (HF) 18 at the end of March, included an adjustment to how the payout window operates.
It's now over a 7 day period. There was a transitional period in April where the reward pool was drained, and there were reduced rewards.
  • The STEEM price rose significantly in May.
Post rewards are shown as STEEM Dollars so if the value of STEEM is up against the dollar then the value of the rewards that are paid in the day will be higher as each STEEM will be worth more.

I haven't looked at payout graphs in a while but a bit of time has passed since HF18, the reward pool is now full and there are many new users on Steemit.

How have payouts been affected?

Thanks to @furion and SteemData we have access to lots of data from the Steem Blockchain in a digestible format.

Post Payouts

Author Payouts
We can see a clear upward trend in post rewards, and a lot of activity in the bottom right of the graphs where people with lower reputations (likely new users) are getting significant rewards. This graph has a log scale on the Y axis, the upward trend is very significant.

Does anyone have an explanation for what has happened at the bottom of the graph at the beginning of May?

Daily Payouts

Daily Payouts
These are tracking the STEEM price, and you can clearly see the effect of the drained reward pool over the month of April, as it replenished itself. Then at the beginning of May, the reward pool was full but the price took off so the daily rewards took off too.

Just imagine what the daily rewards would be if STEEM was worth $10.

Thank you for reading this. I write on Steemit about Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Travel and lots of random topics.

A week old minnow here so earnings haven't been affected

Thinking about the price of Steem rising to $10 or beyond is a great motivator to produce quality content

Thanks for this post @eroche

Fellow minnow here, I am having fun weather I make anything or not ... Been bloging away for years for free ... Lol.. Way better community here than most places.. And way more fun...

It sure is, it's still early days here on Steemit. Keep writing and help to build this community.

Thanks. Read some things I didn't know yet :P

Thanks for the great info!!

Haha oh man, if Steem was worth 10 dollars, I'd be fine with only getting .94 or .24 for each chapter of my stories XD I mean they'd feel more worth the effort to wtite them!

The only catch is there will be more users at that stage so it will be spread around a bit more, but you never know, maybe more in your direction :) Keep writing great stuff.

Ah so the same sort of sitch as back in September in 2016?

Interesting stats, I'm a noob here so not making much on posts anyway. But hey I'm having fun! And the fact that I'm getting paid AT ALL is kinda amazing :) Upvoted and following.

It's no secret that there are not big payouts for everyone, but you do get paid for things here that you don't on other platforms, more importantly I think (as you said), Steemit is a place where we can have fun and the other stuff is a bonus.

Awesome and valuable info there @eroche , I followed you so I can keep up to date with info you may pass along. Must say $10 is a sweet goal to shoot for, sure we will get there soon

Thanks for the compliment @sflaherty, it's a great time to be here on Steemit posting. There are regularly so many interesting developments. I will check out your blog too.

I agree, I am playing bad catch up though. I was made aware of Steemit last summer but I failed to listen and literally just got in here last month. I spent too much of my time last year mining and trading so much and really regretting not settling down and using my writings here back then lol. But hey reaching 200 followers in a few weeks of working it so I think I will make up for lost time hopefully.

I actually got pushed into this here due to working with PIVX in their marketing, budgets didn't make it though so kind of shifting to a more full time approach to Steemit because my gut is telling me to focus on this here. See how it goes.

Anyways thanks seriously for the support and the info, I am trying to keep up to date with the dynamics inside of Steemit to crash course myself here, the article was a great piece of info for me

Your very welcome. It sounds like your making good progress too, 200 followers is a great milestone in just a few weeks.

Steem has been percolating for the last few months. It certainly hasn't exploded yet, so you have not missed the boat on this one. It's a great time to be getting involved, the platform is a bit more mature, there are more users, there are more apps every day.

Seems I am on a path slowly but surely here. Long as I keep writing, sending in my mining to convert for Steem Power I should get a bump ahead. I am a work a holic so hopefully that side to me will pay off nicely here lol.

Been looking at the apps people are creating, seems this community is full of ingenious ideas putting forward all the time. I will do my part and try to get us more new users with the FB marketing stuff I am trying to pull off for Steemit, in the end I hope nothing the best for all of us in involved

If STEEM was worth $10 it would be perfect

It would make a lot of people here very happy :)

Yes of course

But still there's consequences that we do not know yet.

Great article, keep up the good work going to follow for more

Thank you for your support. Ill check out your blog too. ;)

I've always said that each Steem writer should work to increase the value of steem by writing quality articles (such as this one). If it were $10, a lot of the bitching and backbiting would end.

Thank you so much for the compliment @baerdric.

I think too the only way to succeed here is to forget about what your getting for your posts, build connections and refine your writing skills. $10 dollars is conservative long term and if your a great writer at that stage with lots of connections and experience writing you will have a great time here on Steemit.

Still if nobody will vote, price value is useless

We can dream :)

We can make it happen one post at a time.

Count me in :)

An attainable dream

Thanks for the informaton. Keep up the good work.

$10 will rich more richer :)

That's seriously positive progress. Loads of green and orange, and while it's still all veterans at the top, it doesn't seem too extreme.

I know March isn't included in the graph but it seems there were short spells where the blues were pushing greens out again (ie newer users but getting payouts) at both the beginning and end of April. Thankfully short-lived, and in fairness the beginning of April was a once-off anomaly.

Greens and oranges must always have space on that chart. Otherwise is a sign of poor health.

Green shoots are certainly positive for Steemit :)

Good post and good to know the reward pool has now been replenished.

As a matter of interest who or how does the reward pool get filled?

It was a one time thing, They were changing the payout structure from two windows; every day and every thirty days to one window of 7 days.

So if I understand correctly, my STEEM value on my account is going to go up. So you're saying there's a chance! So if my under 1.000 STEEM saw a jump in the STEEM cryptocurrency market to $10.00 from the $1.00 that it's at now, I'd have 10X my current STEEM value to transfer or hold onto?

If you store your value as Steem or Steem power, (not SBD) then if the value of Steem goes up your holding will be worth more. The daily Steem generated is fixed according to rules but as the price goes up the daily value of what is produced is worth more. 😃

wow. Steemit is power to the community!
