In the last chapter we ascertened that the biggest chance for a longterm success of steem is convincing investors like advertisers to invest. Compared to other social media plattforms the number of users and resulting the reach on steemit.com is not very interesting for those investors. That´s why we need to recruite more users.
For derivation please have a look at pt1 and pt. 2
(EXCURSION: of course there are more factors affecting the success of steem. One is the possibility to use steem or sbd for shopping. I´m very glad to get to know the peerhub project by a resteem of @cass)
By having a look at the in the first part of this conception defined target group, it´s easy to see which people need to be convinced of using steemit.com. Let´s take a closer look at those people and their needs:
persona blogger
persona artist
persona public relations
Most needs and attributes are the same. Of course this list is not complete, but it´s representing most people behauviors of the definied target groups. Most important is one big intersection:
This isn´t a personal assumption. It´s the feedback of bloggers, artists and musicians I know in person.
So the biggest hurdle steemit needs to overcome is not increasing the level of awareness. It´s to introduce people to crypto-currencies and its advantages.
I´m working as a marketing manager focused on promoting complicated products for more than six years now and I´m profoundly convinced, that steemit.com is a plattform that is in need of explaination. No billbord-campaign in the world is able to do this job.
Sure the reach of a awareness campaign is larger than a personal dialoge, but it´s divergency loss will be as big as the reach itself. The conversion rates on the other hand will be virtually zero.
Because of examining the current situation and the resulting target groups in the last chapters of my work for @steemit.academy, we can now have a look on the tasks of the academy:
Ever since now you may know that the informations that need to be spreaded to promote steemit.com can´t be communicated by a billbord-campaign or something similar. We need to get deeper to simplify the access for new users. There for I´ll create a steemit.com Education-Kit in the next days.
I´m giving thanks to everybody supporting this project ( @cass , @pharesim , @fabio ) till this point and will be very happy for every input, upvote and everything that will support the @steemit.academy and the longtime success of steemit.com.
I´m having holidays right now, so I hope you don´t need to wait that long for the next chapter.
cheers, @essra
I do the customer support on the Facebook page and I have to be honest. The biggest hurdle is signing up. It creates a huge barrier to entry when ordinary people just wants to join. If there was a step by step tutorial built in (kind of like dropbox does it), then people could have an overview of the platform without being left confused by all the bells and whistles.
hi @cryptoctopus - are you talking about the registration process? Isn´t it just about hitting "register with facebook" anymore? sure the first barrier that needs to be crossed is the registration, but as in every other movement, you need the early adopters... the rest will follow (my opinion). I´d be very glad to hear more of your experiences.
I am glad someone is doing this. On a deeper level, before you address all the work that needs to be done to recruit more people, is the fact that most people who bother to join and write posts end up leaving. This has to be tackled first. If you get a bunch of people recruited, signed up, then most leave, recruitment seems like futile task. As I've said all along, we must feel good on this platform. If only 1% of the people (the writers who get upvoted by whales) feel good, then we have a serious problem. We need to study human emotions and pay real and serious attention to what makes people feel good on a social media platform. If most people don't feel valued, engaged and also appreciated, then they will leave. This is basic human nature that has been overlooked. I don't have the answers, but I know that centralization of power and money is the main source of this persisting problem. Many ideas have been looked at, and among them all is redistribution of the money. All the projects like Curie try to solve this problem. Curation guilds, I suppose are on the way....but all of these things are band-aid approaches and lack one thing: value attached to individual users' attention. Right now the average newbie user is not valued at all. IF steemit can solve this bigger issue, then it looks bright.
hi @stellabelle thank you for your feedback. At the moment everything is about money and yes, it can be very frustrating, if you don´t match the interests of at least one whale, but I think this will change in future. Because of those projects you mentioned above and because of a general change of possibilities and interests. Imagine a steem based yelp, where users get curation-rewards for their comments from a restaurant with enough steem power (I just discussed that with @fabio) or some kind of gamification. Please have a short look at the pyramide and the matched interests in the first part of this concept. Sure this is only a suggestion, but if there is a product-diversification (steemit.com, steem-yelp.com, steem-poker.com steem-whatever.com ...) I think it´s possible to have success with steem without being a talented writer ;-)
This looks awesome.
And I will also use your articles to learn/ practice my German.
It is coming, quickly too! All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
In your comment to @stellabelle you said;
That is one of the best ideas I have heard of on Steemit. My sales background coupled with this idea has me thinking of new ways to sell the Steemit platform and recriut new users. I'm going to process this some more and would like to get back with you on this.
I know I can recruit people, but I agree with @steelabelle when she says,
We may be jumping the gun in recruiting the masses at this point. They need an easier experience with the UI before we target them in any great numbers or they will leave and it will be more difficult to gain them back or build momentum.
Your idea of an academy for Steemit users along with @sykochica who's project I have contributed to, is something I've been working on as well. I'm polling new users asking them what's their most challenging issues using Steemit. Their answers are suprising. If you're interested you can find them on my profile.
I can make video tutorials that can walk through the process of getting up and running. The one's I have seen can be improved upon. But that's not going to address the issues that inexperienced bloggers are facing. The UI needs to be dumbed down before the masses are going to jump on board.
To someone more tech savvy, writing in markdown, hosting images on another server etc,. is a piece of cake. The larger demographic is not going to stand for it. Forcing it on them before they can easily assimilate it is
Your idea of selling it to restaurants would work, For example,
I believe we should talk more about the ideas we're having here. Are you on Steemit Chat?
thx for your comment - let´s talk on steemit.chat for further exchange :-)
Great analysis, looking forward to the final presentations.
