Things You Must Not Do In Order To Garner Traction On Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago

Greetings fans and followers... I must start this piece by appreciating you all for your massive endorsements on my entry post for Steem Ambassador position. It was a huge show of love and acceptance. And I was really humbled. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!

On the business of the day, I want to talk about some points I know if properly worked with, will surely launch you to success on this platform. I have seen steemians...more especially the noob steemians going about indulging in all manners of unethical strategies to draw attention to themselves and their blogs. And no matter all efforts being made to guide them aright, most have practically turned deaf ears. And this is unfortunate...very unfortunate.

There are a lot of informative articles on dos and donts of Steemit out there that you can lay your hands on and read for a successful outing here but many wouldn't do that. But would rather go on indiscriminate visiting spree to different blog pages, doing nothing or whiling away time in various chat rooms. Remember, as you keep postponing getting serious with what you do here...you keep postponing your success.

You need to wake up; you need to be serious for once. Set goals and put modalities in motion to achieve it. The beauty of this is; even if you don't get to achieve goals 100%, you will have recorded significant achievements by the time the set period elapses. With that being said, let's quickly look at the things you must consider avoiding totally....

Useless comments

This could be called anything but I chose to call them useless comments because that is essentially what they are. They are spams and add no values to the subject of discourse and mostly coming immediately after the article is published and intended to fulfill all righteousness. Examples of useless comments includes...

  • Great post
  • Nice post
  • Awesome piece.
  • Wow! Very educative, etcx

This strategy will not only make you prone to being flagged, it will also make you to be seen as unserious and desperate "fool".

"I just followed you, please follow me"

As much as possible stop spamming people's blogs with Follow for follow commnets. No sensible Steemian who is conversant with steemit etiquette will listen to this meaningless pleading. Know this: for well established steemians, you don't just get on to their following lists on a platter of gold. They have standards which is not the same but varies among individuals. Your comment maybe so captivating that the author maybe considering following you, but once you mention it by yourself. It is over.

Not Replying comments on your blog

This is also toxic to your growth in Steemit. If you have not been doing it, start doing it now! Not replying comments tells people you are only here for the rewards. And it will make it very difficult to grow your followers list. When you reply people's comment, you give them a sense of recognition and acknowledgement. And most people really want to know whether you read their comments. And some may regard you as a pompous person and will forever stay off your blog.

You need friend to grow in Steemit, not enemies. More importantly, always make sure you are the last commenter on the comments of those you "admire". What did I mean by this?

I meant that comments can lead to a conversation which could be beneficial to you eventually.

For instance you visited @papa-pepper's blog and left a comment. He came online, red your comment and also left a counter comment on your comment. Now this is a great opportunity to try to start up a conversation. So don't allow it end there. Go back there and comment on his comment. Sometimes, this will lead to your "admired" Steemian ending up following you.

Don't beg for Upvotes or send people links privately

This is another steemit sin you must not commit. Noob Steemians do this very often and I am yet to see anyone who has ever had a smooth ride on Steemit doing this. In some scenarios, you get flagged rather than the requested upvote. So please, avoid this. Keep working... On Steemit, no amount of work is enough because the day you stopped working, you start losing your fans.

Those whom you think are successful here never cease to work. I have had a conversation with most of them; @surpassinggoogle @ehiboss @gbenga @ogoowinner @ejemai...even @drigweeu, a senior moderator with utopian.io, told me he sleeps only 3 hours in 24 hours. So you have to keep being active to remain relevance here.

Why I won't be at Ibadan meetup

I am supposed to be on the road to Ibadan for the highly publicized Steemit Ibadan meetup in which I was not only invited by its prime instigator in the person of @tojukaka, a master blogger with impeccable leadership aura, but was also penciled down as one of the speakers for the event. I am in mourning mood, and spiritually in a very bad shape! I lost an uncle — my father's younger brother in the early hours of today. And I am among those selected to take his body and deposit it in a morgue that is close to my hometown.

I am just feeling bad...but I am only a human and definitely cannot fight nature.

***My love goes to Ibadan Steemit Community. I miss you all; no time is late. We will definitely meet some day. Thanks you very much for finding me worthy of official invitation.

Yours truly,
@eurogee.

A lot of people really need to cultivate the habit of replying to comments.
I've been on a friend's blog for about ten times with good comments but he has never for a time reply to my comment.

I didn't worry much because he does same to others. I wish he could wake up to it. Though i had passed a message to him once but it seems the message wasn't for him.

Eurogee, it's very unfortunate that you won't show up at the Ibadan meet up. I had planned to take care of your lunch no matter how much you can eat. Though i know you don't take too much food. Lol.

Hey boss, thanks for this nice words. As for those that don't reply comments, I will just pass over their blogs because being there is of no purpose.

Thanks for your offer to take care of my lunch

Some other time

@eurogee

my pleasure boss.

You need a friend to grow in Steemit, not enemies. More importantly, always make sure you are the last commenter on the comments of those you "admire"

You got this right boss. This is the latest key to interaction here on the steemit network.

What many newbies don't understand is that you are not told to make comments to get upvotes on your comment but to build relationship. Someone who sees comments as a means of boosting relationship will not find it hard to make reasonable and well constructed comments and will also establish healthy conversation through those comments.
Achieving communication/interaction on steemit goes beyond commenting, humans have feelings and we do know when you are just trying to fool around to get upvotes than making a REAL comments

Thanks boss for this well written article. Thumbs up.

Mehn your insights are dope! Thanks for visiting

@eurogee

Steemit is not for lazy people, they beg for followers, upvote etc....
From their beginning we can tell their part (inactive account).
Thanks for sharing boss, many persons need to see these don'ts on steemit.

Yes boss. Thanks for being herr

U just said it all. Things to avoid in other to excel in the community. Thanks for listing them all out. Also my condolence to u and ur family. May Almighty God grant the fortitude to bear the loss.

Yes boss. Thanks for visiting

Ok, am actually guilty of just one of the above and that is sending links privately.
Trust me i do it in a very polite way, i take permission from the individual before dropping them.
But with your post... I think i gat to stop that
You know it just so sad when you spend hours on content and still it noting. Lolss now an not about the money but...

I would resteem this, so my followers can read and learn.
Thank you...

Am so sorry about your uncle, sorry dearie.
Take care, hun?

You are not totally wrong because you take permission from the person. This is a different case. My advice is only applies to those who have hardly known the person. Thanks

Stay cool bro. The lord will be your muscles this time. My condolences.

I feel it is laziness to read and digest what a writer or blogger is saying that make a lot of people to write comments like "nice post" etc. So one has to make up his/her mind to read posts properly in other to make meaningful comments.
My condolence to you @eurogee and your family for your loss may his soul rest in peace.

Thanks for your opinion on this post sir. I will be fine, sure

My heartfelt condolences. May the good Lord rest the departed soul and give the families absolute comfort in this trying time.

Thanks brother.

Our condolences brother.
Much learning stuffs. Voted and resteemed cos it worths it

Thanks Pastor. It's been quite a while. Hope all is well. Thanks for the resteem

A times i feel like slapping spammers when i see stuffs like "follow me, i will follow you". Who dem follow follow epp. You have also proven yourself to be worthy of the role of a steemit ambassador, as for me, you are an ambassador already, all that remains is putting on another ambassadorial gown (not Akokite gown this time, lol) and GBAM! You are strong, so stay strong boss @eurogee

Accept our deepest condolences
You just summarily elaborated great tips on Steemit for newbies and oldies who have derailed from the right track

Yes boss. Appreciate this visit

My sincere condolence to you. Every man's death reminds us of our mortality. Keep pushing on and my regards to all your end.

Thank you

I have learnt a lot following up your blog and this is another eye opener, I sure will avoid the "useless comments"
sorry for your loss, and for being human ,you are a strong human

Thank you very much

I am just a month old here and i have tried to live by all of those rules since after about the first week when i kinda got a grasp on what was going on here. The first week i was like a baby bird. All mouth and ass , flailing my wings.

Happy you are learning very fastly. Soon, you will become a pro. Keep pushing

Sending post privately shouldn't be a crime in my opinion if you're new on this platform. I'm sure you did it at one point when you started. On this issue of begging for followers. Followers count is overrated if you don't interact with them regularly. Most of my upvotes/comments come from people i don't follow. So it's safe to say, post quality content and let it speak on your behalf. Accept my condolence for your lost. May God grant you and your family the strength to bear the lost.

Those are your opinions and unfortunately they are not in sync with Steemit etiquette. I may have done so as a newbie, as you put it, but I had learnt my lesson also as a newbie.

Success here doesn't only lie on quality of post — the quality of your followers and your relationship with them is what really matters

Thanks for the condolence message

@eurogee

This is well written and while I'm not trying to excuse what a lot of these noobs do, I think it's understandable to an extent.

It's hard - really hard - being a newbie on here. You spend a considerable amount of time writing a post which ends not not getting read or commented on.

That being said, I believe you are right and these practices will only irritate people instead of getting them to follow or upvote you, so they should be stopped.

Good that you understood the issues I raised here.

So sorry about your uncle, take heart.

Thank you

@eurogee permit me to start by saying to you nna ehn isi gi karaka! You are the boss. These factors you dropped here has made me achieved results in my own level here on steemit. I have read this in different version from different individuals here on steemit all still still saying one thing.

That is to say "Success only obey strict principles that must be adhered to and get the desired result.

As a matter of fact i am already developing an article i respect of this titled eurogee 4 rules of engagement on steemit.

Twaile baba.. Salutations.

I am me @brightfame

Good to know how impacting my thoughts have been to you. Keep trying

@eurogee

Eh yaa! Sorry about the lost of your uncle boss @eurogee may you be fortified with the patience to bear the loss.

That said, this post is actually a situp call to the majority of my countrymen(women) steemians. They do a lot of this. I mean I literally recieve those spammy PMs in my WhatsApp wall daily.

I find it really absurd.

I am resteeming this. Hope they all get to read this and make amends.

Many Thanks.

Thanks for the resteem. God bless you

Hi congratulations. Follow and upvote me

Are you sure you read this article my friend? You just broke a rule..

You dont beg for upvote and followership people will follow you at will when you do the needful..

Best regards.

Thank you for your advice i will remember this

So sorry to hear about your loss.
