RE: Did STEEM Create A New Problem ?

in #steemit6 years ago

The main reason it is pointless having SP is at current steem prices your vote is worth next to nothing. You have to have an SP of almost 500 to get a 100% upvote of 1 cent. And you will not earn any curation with that upvote. It is a struggle as a newbe to get to that first 500 (I remember!). When steem value was higher you could see the progress and you could see the point of powering up because each 100 SP meant you got a few more cents upvote (I think when I reached 500 my 100% upvote was worth 16cents). My current upvote is 4 cents (after delegations my sp is 3140). Even if I pulled all my delegations and I had my maximum SP of 9251 my upvote would be just 10cents. With those figures I can completely understand why people don't bother to power up. Don't get me wrong, I am in this for the long haul and assume (hope) that steem will climb in value again. I am powering up when I can. But I am also checking out other ways to boost my SP (tokens, actifit whatever).

I always look at it in relation to the $$ value of Steem, in that way it doesn't change anything if Steem is worth a lot or not. Right now probably is the best time to earn Steem as it's quite easy compared to what it used to be since little to no SP is needed to do so. That's the part which worries me most.

I do too. But that isn't what new people see. Maybe steem should show up vote values in steem not dollars. That might motivate people more
