Hello guys it's been quite a time since i am posting something and as you noticed it's a little bit different than my usual agenda but have no worries i will keep posting my regular stuff.
Before i start listing some of the mistakes and provide you with useful tips i just want to say that the past 2 months i have seen over 2000 CV so i have a pretty clear image of what's going on. The main reason i make this post is to try to help you all and inform you about a couple of mistakes that may look not at all important but believe me in the eyes of recruiters are fatal.
Be aware of the irony levels below, if you are sensitive close it right away, i won't be nice
1) TAKE YOUR TIME CREATING IT
Let's start with the basic guys. The most common mistake i have ever seen it's laziness. A lot and i mean A LOT of the Resumes i receive are in a simple form of word with just a simple typing of information. Neither a difference in the writing style, a color, a shape, a coding nothing all, just like a simple copy paste of your proposition in second grade. That's what i get from ''regular'' person that seeking a job but wait we got internships too. There we can meet the lvl 1 that later evolved to what i mentioned above. Here it's just a plain word with just the name and university.
Yea thanks a lot for the information now you are gonna get hired for sure. You are called John Greed, ok young man with that name you just won a spot.
a) Firstly is boring in the eye
b) Secondly it gives the feeling you are lazy person........ NONE WANTS A LAZY EMPLOYEE
TIP#1
If you are still a bit of lazy person but don't want to show it ( although sooner or later you will) just google RESUME TEMPLATES OR CV TEMPLATES and boom you are one step further that the guys above.
took you long enough don't you think?
Even if you are not a lazy one go and search for a template that you think suits you better, try not to be simple as the word style but not that complicate with many colors etc etc. If you want to go one step further try creating your own template. Take ideas from the other templates available and use your imagination too!
TIP#1,5
If you are follow this method and have as a goal to make a couple of applications in different companies you can create a couple of different templates too! First ask your friends and family about their opinions just by looking at it and if you manage to go to an interview at the end of it you can ask them whether they like it or not and what they suggest
A good hr professional will answer and will help you if instead they are rude then you just found out that company isn't for you!
2) BE CLEAR BE REAL
After you found the template you have to put your information and your background. Be clear and make it simple for example 2016-2017 MSc in Marketing from Arizona university or C2 Cambridge English proficiency don't start storytelling like for example Master in the field of Business administration majoring Marketing in the university of Arizona in the department of Business administration located in the sky palace of Mordor
Try to keep it real i know it's tempting to write in your resume that you worked for the president of America and that your previous employer was google but except the fact that Recruiters with experience can get it with one blink, it's way to easy to find if it's true or not.
In other words shit smells
Finally if you manage to fool them even in the interview your real skills will come into the surface. so beware THE LIES NOBODY LIKES A LIAR
except in sales ;)
3) CERTIFICATION HOBBIES AND VOLUNTEERING
This is somewhat funny but i had happen. Don't use certification that hold no value in your Resume. For example if when you were 10 years old you earn a certification about your drawing skills from school or if when your were 12 you earned the a1 certification in English please don't use it as well. You might think this things never happen, well it happens a lot. Not only that shows lack of skills but it like you make fun of the HR department
Don't just add hobbies just because you had to add them and vise versa if you got some hobbies write them. For better or for worse there are some hobbies that even if you do you can't mentioned them because they will not take serious! Ofc it depends on the person reading your CV but you never know. For example if you write that as a hobby you are a cosplayer dressing as Pikatsu and the position you want is section manager then you don't stand a chance mate.
Maybe in Japan
TIP#2
Always write on your CV if you have any certification, they add value to you especially if you have obtained them from a credible organization. Think of it as a bonus to your overall Image. Moreover, if you have attended in events similar to your job field mention that too for example you are animator and you just took a part in a 40 hour workshop or in a 2 day festival about new animation techniques. This reveals that you keep trying to develop yourself and be better and better
TIP#3
If you have hobbies like hiking, swimming and in generally if it contains exercise, culture ( in an extend :P ) or something relevant with your work write it down you never know if there is a slightly chance the recruiter does the same. You may even reach to the interview and a manager sitting with the hr recruiter and have the same hobby as you.
Just to be clear you probably won't earn a spot by the hobby but you earn a sympathy
TIP#4
If you like to help others either it's humans or animals and plants you can go to some volunteer organizations for a day or 2 to help them to even 1-3 months programs. A lot of these organizations offer certification that you can write on your Resume. Note that nowadays in many countries volunteer work is considered a must to seek a good job in a good environment so keep your eye and go help the benefits are both for you and society .
Making your bed is not consider a volunteer work
That's all for now i hope it helped. I wanted to write more but i thought it would be a good idea to do it in another post. I am not even so sure if you gonna read this one :P
If you have anything to say and ask i will be gladly waiting in the comment section hidden in the dark!
