🐝🐝🐝 Steemit is Activating the Power of the Hive Mind 🐝🐝🐝

Here are a few thoughts on why Steemit will transfer the way people interact with each other and create a new age of shared (hu)manpower that builds without borders or financial hurdles.

Steemit Brings People Together

Well, you could say the same is true for Facebook and all these others things distracting us from being productive. They all connect us. But Steemit does that by paying all of us for doing so. That means people like me who are barely able to provide for their families are all of a sudden in situation to hire a qualified specialist to do some amazing work for a project that will then open up new opportunities. Why? Because we all get payed for this process by sharing it on Steemit. Even better if it is something beneficial for the Steemit community.

That basically means whatever you are doing, your costs of doing that are at least lowered by Steemit if not even fully covered. That even includes the cost of your precious time. Of course that doesn't work right away. You have to build up your account first. But after three months I have reached a point where I can pay people to do awesome things that will be good for them and for me. And for everybody else as well because they add value to the platform. Win win win.

Steemit activates the Power of the Hive Mind

The way how things develop on Steemit is absolutely marvelous. And I am not referring to the platform itself which is just build by a few people. I am talking about the thousands of projects happening all at the same time allowing people to use their creative power to build and contribute to not just the community on Steemit but to society in general.

Here people produce with more motivation than on any other platform before. Every step of the work can be documented and put into a post that will refinance the work while it puts people's service on the market at the same time. One could say that Steemit is big show-off of skills and talent. It is still difficult to do but when the platform improves distribution of posts will hopefully improve as well. And then things will explode.

What is already happening on every corner of Steemit will create a dynamic nobody can follow anymore. Not even @Ned & co. will be able to overview this expanding blob of projects that all will create a thousand new blobs of projects. Steemit is making a difference by allowing people to live middle-class lives in regions where that is otherwise a rather tough endeavour. In the end it is very similar to basic income - just better!

hive-mind.jpg

Why Steemit is a bit like Basic Income

The idea of a basic income is circulating for quite a while now. I heard about it first in ~2006 and learnd more about when the Pirate Party in Berlin put it on their program. It means that all citizens of a country will be payed by the State a monthly basic income that can bes pend in any way they like. It is meant to lower or even cover the basic costs of living like rent and food.

Steemit is similar because it pays you for whatever you do as long as it is of interest to others. From the hive mind perspective this is ideal because now everyone has to contribute to get their share. This counters the often used arguement against basic income which is that people would stop working and just become leeches for society. I don't think that would actually happen a lot but this is not the point of my post.

Here you have to deliver something of value to get your value back. And because there are so many of us it becomes a giant machinery of productive work. I think when Steemit continues to grow like now it will become the number one job generator in the world. And we don't even have to wait for big money to allow us to do so. This already works with the little money we have left ourselves. Together we have plenty of hive money.

Final Thoughts

It is difficult to say how this will all turn out. But I think most people who have been on Steemit for a while would agree with me in saying that the possibilities of Steemit are far far beyond just posting. So despite all flaws I see on the Steemit platform I think that it is an onslaughting hive of creative people that will take the world by storm. It is us that will change the world.

I conclude with a video about the power of the hive mind:

Sort: Β

Nice post ! In especially like the point you make about basic income, how the steemit platform can actually allow for anyone to increase there living standard, and thus it can be considered like a job . I have always been worried how technology will lead to massive unemployment but steemit is a proof that it can be the other way around. Thanks for sharing

I think that technology can create the utopia on earth. While some will try to use it against us the hive mind will push faster and harder to shuffle the cards in favor of the hive mind which is NOT the 1% at all.

It is an amazing time really, we might reach the first time in history where the control and riches doesn't only lay in the hands of the 1 percent as you say !

I posted on basic income yesterday actually. Didn't really think about Steemit being another source 😊

Cool! I want to build a bot that connects post like yours and mine. I think that would be really helpful.

I have no idea where to start but sounds like a cool idea!

I think it can be one form, but you still have to work for it hehe :) I think that's the way it should be though, otherwise it would be like watching a fixed soccer game, no competition = no excitement:) what do you think ?

I think that the idea of Basic Income could probably work because most people want to do more with their lifes than just eat and sleep. And Basic Income covers just that. Everyone would still want to work to increase their way of living. But now they look for better jobs, maybe even something without payment at all. I see Steemit rather as an addon on top of the basic income. The State should provide for us because we do the same for the State. A society that cares for the basic needs of each member will create a self-drive in us as proven multiple times in pilot projects.

But as much as I love the idea and want it to happen in my lifetime for all human beings as much I fear the day it happens. Because the first months might end in chaos because so many things would change drastically. It will be like hardfork 19 on Steemit where they quadruppled the default upvote strength. The days after teveryone was upvoting like crazy because it was so lucrative all of a sudden.

There are many projects or 'experiments' in progress over a fair few countries -
https://www.worldcrunch.com/culture-society/universal-basic-income-5-experiments-from-around-the-world-1

I hope that they will work together ironing out issues and then come up with a master plan.

I also thought this section from the Swift Demand site was interesting as it talks about how their coin could work globally ,i.e. not holding the same value everywhere.

https://www.swiftdemand.com/faq

Cheers!

Hey thanks for the link, I never heard about that. It is a basic income coin?

Yes it is.

Early stages but that's the idea, and planned to suit inflation/global exchange rate too.

Worth a look and little effort, sounds like B E to me :)

Well I think u kind of convinced me a bit that it could be quite nice hehe. It's a bit questionable to live this robotic life we have today, we are in a way more enslaved today then ever before. Atleast if you were a farmer back in the days you choose your work amount and got paid accordingly, you could also choose to just sit down and relax a little bit. Doing that at work would not be so appreciated

The world will change so dramatically in the next 15 years that with or without basic income EVERYTHING will be different. Maybe we don't need that anymore or maybe we need it more than ever. Time will tell. But certainly the most interesting time in human history to live in.

It definitely is and I'm excited and hopeful ! By the way I wish you a nice weekend my friend ! Do you drink a lot of the nice coffee over there which I saw in the last video ?

I think that if I'm receiving income for being alive, then I'm OK with that!

Then i have more time to do what i love, which may not provide any income at all :D

Check out my comment above, so both you and @dandesign86 see it.

Great post

Did you even read it?

@flauwy
Do u really think i didnt read all those post?
Some of them are based on photography, what do u expect me to say?,am trying to read my feeds and create a good impression with my followers and here u stand trying to criticize me!!!....am just a new guy here who spends almost 18 hours a day on steemit all in the name of . ...be nice and dont judge by first sight bro..u never really know what a brother is going through

Β 7 years agoΒ (edited)Β

Look, maybe you read it quickly. I understand and that is totally fine. There is tons of stuff to read and I have been where you are now a few weeks ago. Maybe you should understand that a comment like good post is a wasted comment. It doesn't make any impression, doesn't invite to reply or open a conversation. And the least thing is that it will earn an upvote from anybody. So you are wasting just your own time as well as from those reading it. If you want to show that you appreciated the post you can leave a bit more than that. See it as a lesson of advice. Others will flag this behaviour, I see it all the time.

Here, take a Tip! for taking the time to create a proper defense. No hard feelings I hope!

Ok..tnx

Interesting post... I still have not been able to earn much on here, and the only thing I have managed to do is attract 272 followers... but what I really need to do is figure out how to do what you are doing. I would love to do research for pay in steem... I used to be a journalist. If you have any ideas on how I could help other journalists by doing fact checking or research - please let me know. Thanks. (Oh and I've upvoted and followed you)

Hi Somena, I am not sure if I understand the question. You want to help other journalists with their fact checking? You want to sell that service? You could create a post in #steemgigs for that. But I don't think that is what you mean, is it?

Hi, thanks for responding... I'm looking for work in Journalism that's not the actual reporting... helping editors and resource people with fact checking as an example. OR just doing research on stories that might help a journalist or editor with preparing a themed edition... that sort of thing. I'm sort of grasping at straws because I don't know how this is done anymore. Newspapers and media outlets used to have investigative journalist teams to do investigative reporting but so much of that has gone by the way side in the past decade. Thanks for the advice about #steemgigs I will check that out for sure.

Please contact @cryptoctopus. Can't say more. Tell him what you told me.

And I feel the video was worth 15min of my attention. Some may have a negative impression of the term "hive mind" from a certain TV series several (like maybe 17 or more) years ago, but this highlights the awesome power of "collective", applied in different ways. Great post & perspective.

Before I forget it: Great Comment. Here is a Tip! for your effort.

Having been on here less than two weeks, there are a lot of "firsts". Your tip was another one, thanks!

There is always something new to discover on the platform.

Do you mean the Borg in Star Trek Next Generation? There was also Hive in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who controlled everyone he came in contact with.

Yes, Borg. I stopped watching TV (on purpose anyway) not too long after.

I don't have a TV since 2004. But I watch stuff online.

Im quite active on steem....but seems like luck is playing foul with me.....😭😭😭😭

Β 7 years agoΒ (edited)Β

I don't think that luck has much to do with it. I checked your profile and what can I say about that? Tons of articles flagged for plagiarising other content? That is very bad and will be countered from Steemians with all they have. People want the platform to succeed and when Steemit becomes known for sharing stolen content we cannot achieve that.

So you need to create unique content. I think it is a slightly different case with videos. If you post videos from others it is not cool but sometimes it is also useful. It is not illegal to post a YouTube video from somebody else. But it is in fact illegal in most countries to post a copyright protected image and most images are copyright protected.

Try to use ONLY public domain photos for your posts. You will find them on https://pixabay.com/ I get all my pictures from there. Only fanart and promotional images are ok if you give the source from where you got them. It is a grey area but usually companies like the exposure of their Intellectual Property. Not sure how that works with Steemit money legally though.

I can only hope that steemit can act as my basic supplemental income at the minimum, lol. I dont need it, but it would be great if I can free up a few hundreds more dollars for investments.

I came over to steemit, because I had an internal company interview with the social media department. I interviewed, but wasnt hired. Its a bummer, but I found out about this site shortly later on, and decided to give it a try. Afterall, I'm still being paid to post content, right?

You probably were lucky that you didn't get the job because now you are free to invest more time into Steemit where you eventually can earn more than at any social media company ;)

Yeah, lol, not quite because I still work for the same company, just different departments. But I'm not so interested in going to social media department now, because I can definitely build up my reputation and earn more potential income here during my off-hours.

Well, work on it and who knows, maybe in half a year you quit your job for good. :)

An interesting read, @stellabelle would like this too I think. Mining the hive minds... ooh maybe a blog title there 😁

Nice work!

Well, drop her a note. I would be happy to invite her to my blog. ;)

Done :)

Thx. Here is a Tip! for you.

Thanks! 😁

Facebook and youtube will be assimilated long live the steemitborg

Seriously some things need to change on steemit for a global site to emerge taking over the big 3 of facebook youtube and twitter.
The whales holding 98% of the steemit wealth and the plankton minnow holding .01% of the wealth and only able to earn a couple of cents per post won't work. Check out the churn rate of steemit. If you don't encourage people to stay they will drift back to where they came from.
I'm not sure in what way things can change but since HF19 its really not worth posting or commenting on most posts. Maybe going from 20 votes a day to 10 votes a day didn't help. Maybe a slider for everyone would encourage more votes.. We'll just have to see what HF20 brings

Maybe only let people self vote on their original post and not comments or try and stop people voting on their second third fourth or fifth account... or even maybe their 50th account. When people see unfairness they just move away
Just my 2 cents worth

I agree with your two cents. Steemit requires tons and tons and tons of improvement to take out the big competition. Right now the distribution of posts is terrible.

However, I don't think there is no money. There is tons of money and it goes into the right direction as well just not enough. You say that 98% hold the Steemit wealth. I say that is not so bad. These people usually have invested into Steemit and hold a financial share of Steem. You cannot take that away or you are suggesting Socialism and expropriation of property.

The key is better distribution so the whales will find your articles. If you think that whale have no interest in upvoting quality post than you don't see their perspective at all. They might be rich today. But they will be filthy rich when Steem takes off and that only happens when the platform is healthy and happy.

So it is easy to feel frustrated because things are not working out for you and others. But that is because things need to be developed and change over time. Blockchain technology is very slow to change and it is only one year old. BitCoin is already 6 years old and changes 20 slower than Steem. So I think we are on a good way and EVERYBODY putting in the time and effort to find recognition WILL FIND RECOGNITION. The thing is that 99% of all users don't have the time nor the motivation to go that deep. And it will always be that way, even with fairer distribution.

Here, take a double Tip! 0.2 for your amazing discussion starter.

Thank you :)

verry nice article man thnx for the work you did put in this was great to read.

I am happy that this article inspired you. That's what it is all about. Make people keep on Steemin'

I loved this post and read it twice. I’m a big fan of the Universal Basic Income and I think that cryptocurrencies will be the ultimate tool that will make it happen. I just hope that one of the Scandinavian countries will be the first in the world to adopt it (altough I think that the Netherlands and possibly one of Canada’s provinces would be another likely candidate for the pioneer role).

The Pirate Party used to be big here in Sweden, but sadly they completely disappeared from the political scene in this country. How is it in Germany nowadays?

I also love bees. :)))

Lol. I am glad I deliver content that is so intense for you!

I think in Germany happened the same as in Sweden: The Pirates weren't ready for politics and dissolved themselves through affairs and internal wars. And probably with the help of our beloved agencies as well. It was just too easy for them. But the movement shows that the tide is changing. We will need a bit more time but young people have different ideas and wishes for their future.

Β 7 years agoΒ (edited)Β

Steemit is deciding tough decision very quickly like what to with copyright infringement and child pornography. The hive reacts quickly and powerful to things like this. It also reacts to projects that are helpful for the community and the Steem blockchain. This is the power of the hive mind.

The second you start a political discussion this effect is dead. Politics devides people to divert them from the mischief of the 1%. i don't think that hive mind has anything to do with communism. It is a natural phenomenon and cannot be reduced to ideaology.

There are many different opinions on Steemit and it is by far no Borg Mind where everyone thinks the same. But when it comes to action people can take on the platform all of a sudden we are all just human and react in a way that protects the hive over the individual. For example the individual who posts something hurtful on Steemit will be countered by community through flagging and other means. That is a form of censorship through public content. And that is the only censorship that makes sense.

Here take a double Tip! 0.2 for initiating a great discussion!
