Steemit has every potential that it could have to beat the social media giants, yet there are still a few features missing that would be the cherry on the top of the cake. Let's discuss some aspects:
1) Decentralization
In this field it beats every single social media in existence, and rightly so, its a pioneer in this technology, nobody has tried a blockchain based social media before.
2) Censorship Resistance
This is critical, if we want to have freedom of speech. Other social media will censor sensitive topics or criticisms, not to mention suspend accounts for no reason or shadowbanning people. This is a big advantage that we have our platform open, censorship resistant, and we highly value freedom of speech.
3) Monetization
This is an awesome feature, nobody has even dared thinking about this before. Of course not, the existing giants all work with fiat money, and don't want to part with it, none have had any interest in crypto, which will obviously be their downfall. You can't tip people and can't send money frictionlessly with fiat, like you can with cryptocurrency. This is our advantage. We generate content, we take all the profits, no more need for corporate giants.
3) Communication
While Steemit is very well designed with the subscription based model, there are a few things that are missing:
- Multimedia Integration: Video, Music and other apps to be integrated. We only need to have a plugin for this, the data can be stored separately on decentralized cloudhosting (https://storj.io comes to my mind).
- Communication with Friends/Subscribers: This is essential, we need to have chatbox and a PM system so that we can communicate with your friends.
- Games: Facebook draws one of it's successes on the games they host, we could do the same, integrate flash or html5 based games into steemit.
- Photo Album: Not to mimic Facebook, but a photo album is pretty much present in all social medias, because people love to share photos, it would be nice if this can be added
This being said, we are on the right path, a little more development here and there and we can go mainstream very soon. So brace yourself and let the world discover Steemit!
We need to get better...people are going vocal rather than notes. Such as the wireless services...even networking are mostly getting voice talk than chat online. It feel closer when you hear people talk to you instead of write to you... If we can modernize our steem face...Steemit.com will rock!
