RE: Follow Posts Feature Requested on Github

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Hmmm. This seems to be "out of character" for you Kris, aside from the "rewauested" word. What word were you trying to use there? Perhaps I fail to understand what you're asking for in your github request. To track activity on posts all you need to do is look at your @krnel "homepage" by clicking on your avatar. The Replies link will take you to replies to your comments and you will get notified by a red number on your avatar when there is activity.

What am I missing?

Ok, I have updated the github with an example to make it more clear. Usually people understand the "follow" feature from Facebook through "liking" posts:

ex: Facebook. You click "Like" on a post. Henceforth, you receive notifications from people who comment on that post.

Hope that helps. Peace.

EDIT: What's odd is you ask about "rewauested", btw requested when corrected. And that error was in this sentence, which explained that its for "elsewhere than on our own posts or comments".

"Then we can interact more easily by being notified when there is activity we requested to be made aware of elsewhere than on our own posts or comments."

I even had it decently explained on the github whereby others could understand it. Anyways, should be pretty clear now what I'm saying. Peace.

Yes, much better. When I encounter spelling errors I usually can get what the intended word was from the context. In this case 2 letters were erroneous and I even looked up "rewauested" to make sure it wasn't an actual word! LOL

I am still somewhat confused though, as even on fb "following" and "liking" are entirely different things. I'm not a fb "power user" so forgive my complete understanding of it. However, I do recall that when you become "friends" on fb that automatically adds that friend to your feed (wall / timeline) and I do not like that. I don't add fb friends very often and when I do I immediately unfollow them in most cases.

Steemit already has the fb "follow" functionality. I now understand what you intended concerning notifications, and being notified about activity for posts a) not in your feed b) you haven't commented on. It's like adding notifications to activity on posts you vote on but make no reply to.

Holy crap now you have me doubting if FB works that way with "likes"... I haven't been on in a while... either way I want this on Steemit LOL.

When you follow someone you get notified on their posts. You don't get notified of comments on those posts.... unless... you Like it... at least that's how I thought it worked.

Yeah, you got it now.

Currently on Steemit, you only get notified for:

  1. posts you make
  2. comments you make on any posts

Notification of posts you don't make, is what I'm requesting.
Notification of posts you don't comment on, is what I'm requesting.

So this will greatly increase interconnectivity and activity.

Yup. This one is MUCH needed. I hate not being notified of posts I've commented on so I can keep up with the activity of the post. Sucks.
