Newbie Questions About Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago

I just started this and I have a few questions:

  1. What are the numbers next to people's names?
  2. Can anyone confirm that they personally have earned steem and then turned it into actual dollars?
  3. how do I do that?
  4. When and how do I get a curator award, just by up voting things?
  5. should I up vote my self?
  6. What should I say at the end of my posts for people to do to maximize their potential?
  7. are there any pitfalls newbies need to watch out for?

Hiya. I'm still fairly new (2 weeks ish), feeling my way around. Don't know the answers to all of your questions, but...

1: that's your reputation score. It starts at 25 and grows. I don't know whether upvotes or comments or resteems increase it, but it goes up. It can also come down if you get flagged for things. Flags are supposed to be there to report abuse but I've seen evidence of them being used maliciously.

5: I've seen people upvote the original post a small amount, then upvote their own comment loads. When you've been here a while and gained power, you can choose the value of your vote. It strikes me as cheating. Of course we are gonna like what we say; it goes without saying, without having to pin a medal on our own chest. I find it off putting but some people are fine with it, apparently :)

7: don't piss off any whales.

Thank you!

Great post 👍 I really want to know as well :D really good questions !

I'm new too and have found that I can answer a lot of these types of questions by using the search function. There's also steemchat which you can sign up to and ask questions. Not sure of the actual URL but if you do a search for steemchat you should find it.

I found the link for Steem chat. Here it is: https://steemit.chat/
