Great!

Well here's ONE simple solution to get you from where you are to where you want to be...

Teach what you know.

Yup. So simple it almost doesn't make sense... Right?

Here are THREE reasons why it works:

IF WE ALL TAUGHT WHAT WE KNEW...

  1. We would waste a lot less time and energy trying to impress others, pretending to be smarter than we really are.
  2. We would all be smarter and gain from the exchange because we wouldn’t be hoarding this knowledge for ourselves.
  3. Those around us would value what we offer more often and begin to see us as a trusted authority on the subject matter.

Teaching what we know is harder than it sounds, though, because we all suffer from the "curse" of knowledge. Basically, we are too close to the things that we already understand to even recognize the value they truly carry.

So we need a little perspective...

Have you ever taught something new to someone else before?

Think.

What did you teach and who did you teach it to?

Here's HOW "teaching" works:

Through the process of teaching, we end up reviewing and re-learning WHAT we are teaching just because we have to literally break the information down into smaller, more easily digestible pieces, before presenting the new ideas to someone else.

Here's another suggestion you can try out if you want to become GREAT at something you're "just okay" at...

TEACH IT!

As a teacher, you will be answering questions and gaining new insights on some basic bits you might have glossed over when YOU were the student! Aaaand, as the teacher, it is your responsibility to make sure the information makes sense to the student so they can... you know, go forth and conquer.

It's all about being open to expansion, constant growth, and welcoming new ways of mastering your own thought processes.

Know what I mean, jelly bean? 😉
