It means the same as "owned".

"Don't get owned, own yourself"? Pun not intended.

Don't get owned, own yourself

Maybe if we turned it around to "own yourself" first then something else it might work better because as someone said it might not look right to start with a negative. What do you think?

Not a bad idea actually, now that you said it. It also avoids the unintentional pun.

Thanks. I thought it wasn't quite right. Yes you can only go 6 comments down. The way to get round it is find the last answer from the person you responded to and just reply there. It will go to the bottom of the responses and show up in their responses feed.

What about just "Own yourself, earn yourself" - not sure if it sounds right.

A little too repetitive perhaps, "get paid not pwnd/owned" is neater compared to that IMO. My idea was that you own yourself and your content, but anyway, I don't claim to be an expert on the matter.

I couldn't reply to that message by the way. Weird.

There's merit in saying:

Get paid, not owned.

Because there's a multi-country audience on Steemit and not everyone gets the street talk.
2ndly, Facebook, Twitter etc literally own our pages. Steemit gives us a sense of ownership.

I understand what you are saying but it may actually psychologically be more effective to use a phrase that people are less familiar with - it raises more curiosity.

I used to hear about Tweeting a lot from people who had no idea what it was - I think that fact actually made it more effective in the end because people actually had to put in the effort to find out what it was.

They had to invest psychological capital and it resulted in more discussions and conversations than would otherwise have occurred.

"Get paid, not owned" owned is growing on me too. There is something to be said for the direct route too. Lol it is not easy doing this stuff I am in two minds now:)

that's why you ask experts to advise you. ;-)

but then you make the final choice

Lol. Let's see what other ideas come in and what people think but I am liking it more as time goes on. Might also be worth getting a vote on the top ideas once we have them in.

I agree with gizmosia. Also, I am a newbie to all of this and older than most of you, so I'm playing catch-up. I was confused by "pwned", though I always like alliteration which cryptofiend was aiming for.

Reminds me of pure pwnage. :D

might have been one of the first "youtube series" to use the word so often. :P
