For the past years, we have utilized various online applications and platforms for our comfort, sake and advantage. Others used these to promote movies or books, sell products and services or start a campaign for the betterment of the community. Speaking of which, platforms that promote social change are too many to be left unnoticed.

The imperative transformation of culture, tradition, behaviour, social institutions and norms takes huge effort and collaborative support of the community. For that reason, the people behind these social change platforms who have dedicated their entire being to make this world a better place to live in are worthy to be praised and recognized.
Listed below are some of the platforms that promote social change:
Change.org
Change.org is considered as the "world's platform for change" where netizens (internet citizens) can create petitions and ask others to sign. Few of my most favourite petitions are those that involve animals such as the petition to stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival 2018 (Yulin Dog Meat Festival is an annual festival held in Yulin, China that lasts for 10 days and in which more than 10,000 dogs are being eaten).
girleffec.org
girleffect.org is a non-profit social change platform that uses media and mobile technology to encourage women to change their lives. In a world where women are marginalized and treated as vulnerable, this platform seeks voice out women empowerment. They produce various products, journals, dramas, etc. made and distributed by women.
counterspill.org
counterspill.org aims to minimize the world's addiction to fossil fuels and nuclear energy. They promote awareness by maintaining a living archive of the non-renewable energy disasters while also engaging in social media and communities.
kickstarter.com
world's largest crowdfunding platform that focuses on creativity. The company proudly claims it has a mission to "help bring creative projects to life" and they are not exaggerating - Kickstarter has gained almost $2 billion in pledges to fund innumerable projects related to arts and technology.
Adding on the list is my newly discovered and favourite platform, Steemit.
Steemit is a blogging and social networking website on top of the Steem blockchain database. The Steem blockchain produces Steem and Steem Dollars which are magic bean tokens users obtain for posting, discovering, and commenting on interesting content. One year later it was launched, it has conquered the internet by storm.
While many of you might disagree that Steemit is as well a platform of social change, let us not forget that steemit does not only let us fully commit to our passions and make a living out of them. While this aspect attracts a lot of people to the platform, the other activities are later discovered by the community. Promoting love for nature, fighting for animal welfare, and building a community of mutual trust and support, just to name a few examples of Steemit turning into an amazing platform for social change.
I admire several accounts and posts due to its mission and vision. Presenting to you some of those below:
Above all, Steemit promotes interconnectedness with people throughout the globe. The engagement of one another, the eradication of biases and the deepened understanding about everything that surrounds us. Let alone those things tell as to why Steemit is a new platform for social change.
Everyday, we spend hours and hours online looking for information, entertainment, or just to chat with others. I think it is worth it to use some of that time to make yourself familiar with the websites promoting social change. Most of them are non-profit and have no means for great advertising, nevertheless the value of their work is massive! Us raising awareness of those services is already contributing to the cause and effectively helping to make this world a better place.
Love,
Glenna ❤
