An interesting and thoughtful post. I've only been around Steemit for a few months but my early observation is that like every system that's ever been created for any purpose, there's a natural tendency for people to try to 'work it' for their advantage. Hopefully some adjustments can be made to balance a bit better.

Absolutely @gsm1974... there have always been those strategic players whose approach is about maximising their own interests/gain, and that's all fine really, it's to be expected like anything else in the world that offers rewards. But to counter that there was always just as many people approaching Steemit to help grow a revolutionary community that celebrated creativity, difference, wit, etc, and most importantly celebrated being different to the mainstream world. But it's becoming more mainstream and we need to try to re-balance again, before the crucial element that set it apart is lost.
Agree. I mentioned to someone else the idea of putting in place some functionality to limit bots ability to run wild. Or in other words, to force actual people to curate. I don't really have a sense of how effective something like that might be, though.
I often wish I had a technical head on me to come up with some workable solutions! I'm sure plenty of people have ideas that could work, and perhaps they are just around the corner!
