You all know by now how cool it is to be and write on steemit ,not only because of the rewarding system which makes it profitable for you to be on here and write/upvote/comment , but also because the people here are freethinkers and have that entrepreneurial spirit that makes them unique. And who get you to think about their ideas or topics in a new way.
Influence and Cencorship
There are Studys about how they could single handedly influence the election by manipulating the newsfeed.
And as we all should know by now facebook is doing exactly that. CBS: Report: Facebook manipulates what's "trending".
But if that wasnt Orwellian enough in germany they actually employ ex-stasi members to patrol Facebook in a bid to stamp out “xenophobic” comments. And since this is the case there have been homevisits and
punitive payments for those who leave "hate posts".
(I dont really know how it is in other countries so please tell me about your situation )
But you should also know that Facebook isnt the only one doing it Twitter is also often cought manipulating the trending topics.( e.g. # DNCLeak and # ClintonCashwere suppressed)
And also recently they banedf the conservative writer Milo Yiannopoulos for trolling Leslie Jones over her role in the new Ghostbusters movie.
Last but not least Reddit is also happily concoring their forums and already feeling the punishment for it..
Considering all this its just a question of time till all the users of these sites will look for an alternative, and since this site is already up and running it cant be to long till they stumble upon it. And when they understand that they will actually earn money posting here they will quickly jump onto the seemit boat.
And this is still not everything that got me super exited about steem ..:)
I also think this community is really awesome just look at all the entrepreneurs anarchist and just cool people.
And im sure im not the only one who feels like this about steemit, otherwise there wouldnt be that many meetups , right?
Also people giving away steemit cupcakes and things like that will just grow this site so lets hope for a bright future :)!
Initially I was more focused on money as an attractive feature but I think censorship resistance can be equally attractive - if not more attractive for certain people who are tired of corporate controlled social media.
The worst thing it could happen, if steemit doesn't make it to a 100mn+ userbase, is that it will still keep the other networks honest - because once you have even 1 network that isn't censored, that's a tremendous advantage over the others who must then try to pretend they are not censoring (and will consequently have to reduce their censorship practice).
Additionally the algorithm of ranking and what's going on in sorting the news, is transparent and open source. That's extremely more transparent than what most social media practice. So that's one more area where steemit can keep the others (more) honest. If you see something "trending" here that is buried elsewhere, you'll know it's censored (elsewhere).
both things are amazing !
and since posting on fb becomes actually kinda "dangerous " in germany since they might fine you for it this is actually the exact opposite which makes it so incredible in my opinion :D!
Lol @ Germany fines. I think I've heard that one before but I don't remember why the fines were thrown.
hmm i have only seen german articles about it..
but it was pretty much a couple had a private fb group about the refugees ..
the german goverment cant handle critique apparently :D
