The Lost Art of Pinstriping

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

There once was a time when artisan craftmanship was the norm. People inspired, designed and made things from shear dedication to their particular skillset. Often times it took years of hard work, practice and failure to reach an acceptable level of success. One such art in the gearhead world is Pinstriping.

I introduce to you a great friend and a true artisan Charles Spears of Pops Garage Paint and Pinstriping.

Pinstriping and custom lettering has been around since the days of the horse drawn carriage. Originally these subtle lines were used to accentuate body style lines, rims and spokes like on the iconic model T. Then in the early 1950s artists such as Von Dutch, Dean Jeffries and Ed Roth began to expand these designs and where they would be placed, most notably on the hood, pillars and around truck keyholes. Today we have taken this great form of art and been able to transpose it on everything from cars and motorcycles to saws, clocks, toolboxes and just about anything paint will stick to!

I met Mr. Spears a few years ago as co-workers at a job. On the occasional opportunity that we were in the same vicinity our conversations always led to our mutual love of the gearhead culture. We both have octane in our veins for sure! There is such diversity in this realm but never a lack of anything to discuss. His passion has always been paint and bodywork. Mr. Spears has dedicated himself to keeping this artform alive and spreading the joy that comes along with doing what you love!

I hope that you have all enjoyed this and seeing some of his amazing work. If anyone is in the Tennessee area maybe you'll catch him at a local car show and be able to pick something up for yourself.
