Today I Was Dismayed to See a Post Slandering Someone I Have Huge Respect For.
The post was attacking @GoldSeek (Peter Spina). Here is the article SCAM UPDATE - GoldSneak Revealed!!. The post attacks Peter because not too long ago Peter called the Coeval token (Monkey Capital) a scam after people lost their shirts.
Now I am not here to judge Monkey Capital because frankly I just won't buy their tokens or any token affiliated with the team behind it. This is how free markets work. Once burned, twice shy. Our community is small and word travels fast.
Peter should have not gone after Monkey Capital either. We see the shit storm it has created. I know his intentions were good but now we have drama playing out.
Slander is Never a Good Idea.
Now I know there is a huge temptation to attack others online when you have such a powerful tool like Steemit at your disposal. We have seen Steemit be used in the ugliest ways going back to the flag wars of 2016. It is so sad to see people attacking each other on this platform especially when it slanders a person.
Steemit is unlike other social media channels. Here we are writing on the Steem blockchain and everything we put here is immutable after 7 days.
Imagine you write a piece about someone slandering them. Then two weeks later you realize your statements were false. What are you going to do? On a traditional website you can delete the post but not on Steemit. Your slanderous words are immutable and forever published on the Steem Blockchain. Imagine for a second how damaging that can be to your reputation. Apologizing won't won't help if the words can't be taken back.
@MinnowSupport Upvoting Content Slandering Someone.
I have nothing against the @MinnowSupport team. I am just asking that they pay close attention to the content they are upvoting. Having simple guidelines would go a long way. For example, if a post is being used to slander another user the best thing to do would be to not upvote it. Using such a wonderful community tool like this to attack another user can do no good.
Final Thoughts.
Just don't slander other users. It really is as simple as that. If people are found to be doing something unjust the world will find out. We don't have to use the Steem Blockchain in this way. It will never lead to anything good in the end.
Agreed. If there are any issues with upvotes coming from Minnowsupport, please let one of us know. We do not tolerate slander, doxxing, pornography or plagiarism. Contact one of the team on our Discord https://discord.gg/v3GpU4N. If we find violations to our terms we remove the upvote.
Update: I have removed the upvote. Please bear in mind our upvote bot is used on average 2000 times a day. We cannot manually check every single one and rely on the community to point out any issues.
Wow, that is an insane amount of upvotes! Thank you for the quick response #HighFive. Your team does an amazing job.
Thank you. We try to reflect the values we would all like to see on Steemit.
At our next meeting, we'll be holding back the electric car.
@hilarski Hi. I am one of the Witness's that support MSP. I understand what your saying. I can say though, MSP has over 5000 members now and growing larger everyday. When you have this many users there are always going to be some "bad apples" and I can assure you we have a dedicated team working around the clock to help minimize the scammers, and bad guys and etc..etc..
MSP does have a list of 'Rules' that are for members to follow to keep in accordance with the motto of MSP which is "Piece Abundance & Liberty"
I need to go take a look again on what it says about "slander" and also I will bring this up with admins.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. And I hope you don't hold MSP in a negative light. As we are working very very hard to help minnows on the Steemit platform
No problem, I was just bringing attention to it. You guys do a great job.
Very true..... Good post.
You know even if the data wasn't immutable and we could delete it, what is said cannot be unsaid and what is done cannot be undone. That's just the reality we have to accept. Unfortunately, people(I'm most likely guilty of this too) seem to be a lot more careless with their "tongue" in the cyber space, especially if they are hiding behind an anonymous account.
I agree, anon accounts are difficult to deal with. I prefer real accounts.
nice final toughts. I suggest to just ignore people instead of doing that. There is no need to do such things.
Disgusting how people could do something like this and true to ruin an innocent persons reputation
It seems like they tried to manipulate information to put @GoldSeek in a bad light
I'm happy that we have people like you to prevent this happening and to spread the word
I'm pretty careful of what I say here. Even if you edit a post the old version will still be in the blockchain. I've said before that your reputation here is more than a number. Past remarks could come back to bite you.
That is exactly the point. This is no place to be playing the slander game. I did not know that the posts stayed on the blockchain even after editing. That is scary.
As soon as a block is processed it is immutable. So all your voting history is preserved even if you change your mind. There's some interesting data science projects to be done on that. Think before you click ;)
You are a hypocrit @hilarski. You say that you should not slander people on Steemit then yesterday you did just that. You have no shame.
Thank you.
This platform and those like it will change the landscape in many ways.
Great reminder @hilarski, SteemON!
Good moral advice for user on steem platform. Thank you. I hope it would be followed.
@hilarski, I agree that slander is wrong and has not place on Steemit.
I also to remind people that whatever you write on Steemit is locked in on day #7 after your publish your post.
What I mean is that you can not edit or change your post once it reaches 7 days old and you have received a payout.
So if you slander, demean, or tear down another person, your words will be saved for all to see!
Yup, that is what the post was about. The Steem Blockchain is immutable.
You are right man! Steemit should be used to lead to something good...

nice to post on slandring @hilarski sir and steemit is not only a social media network its also a blockchain and blockchains have some rules so we also becare to post and in every condition usin this not like other fucking apps this is a platfarm which we use for many benefits not only craziest or time pas
Wow yeah save that digital beef for the lame social media apps like Instagram and Facebook :D The internet makes people feel so powerful over others.
Steemit is too friendly and intellectual for that BS...
Its funny a person will say things with a keyboard the would not say to someones face .... if your thoughts where to become part of our psyche it might help keep some of the nonsense off the web....
Great post man.
Our problem is that most of us tend to judge to easy without first trying to understand why somebody did a certain thing.
Steemit is a beautiful platform and i hope that one day we could change the mentality of this people.
Posts like this one will certainly help acchieve that goal.
Keep up the great work that you are doing here..
Thank you @silviu93!
Is that not Libel as it is in the written/printed form, where as slander is the spoken (oral) form? i could be wrong, but that was always my understanding. I just did a quick search and found this, which appears to support that. http://communications-media.lawyers.com/libel-slander-defamation/slander-or-libel-what-is-the-difference.html
You may be right, my command of the written word is poor. This beef all started via a podcast on GoldSeek.
And yet you post an article despite admitting you don't understand the difference between slander and libel. FFS . You are warning others when you make such a basic error
I've always felt that the best way to address questionable information is to, well, question it. It's a more positive response then resorting to slander or an angry retort. It opens the door for the other person to respond if you're assumptions are wrong. And, if you happen to be right, it encourages others to think about your questions/concerns and decide for themselves without you pushing an opinion.
Slandering and attacking others is a downhill battle that nobody really wins.
Yup, nothing good comes out of it.
a very good post, I fully agree: slander and malicious gossip destroy communities
Great post @hilarski sir, i like to say that who ever listens to a slander is him a slanderer.
As my Great-Grandmother used to say.
If you don't have anything nice to say ... mute the user.
I don't think slanderous people can last long on a community like steem
this is not great to see steemit that way :(
Kindness goes along way in this world. Hopefully people will learn this lesson..and soon :)
Great post my friend, i'm truly in agreement with a lot of your points plus i personally hate slandering, i resteemed
Perfect!
Excellent points. I'm a relative newbie and I know I forget how permanent posting here is.
On the one hand I love the archival aspects, but on the other hand I know it slows me down as I try to make sure what I put here is something I will be proud of in the long run.
Great topic Thanks for sharing
Well written and thanks for posting it. Just walk away folks. Walk away. There's no good reason to start slinging crap all over.
If you have a beef with someone, keep it private. Remember the old simple leadership concept: Praise publicly and reprimand privately.
Their sometimes can be a thin line between slander and criticism, in which the second one is very important. I'v seen plenty of people just wanting to see the good things and too afraid to talk about things that are wrong (not talking about a specific subject here). But only by addressing the more serious issues one can improve.
As for @minnowsupport, it is an automatic votebot so it's hard to keep record of who gets upvoted. For that matter I'v seen people using it for single pictures they ripped of the internet...
I agree, I saw this battle growing from the beginning. So I was watching.
It staggers me that you would post such an article when you don't have a basic understanding of law. Why show your ignorance in public?
Peter Spina is full of shit, not literally, but he has been spouting crap for ages and got a taste of his won medicine with proof. So, screw you Peter, have a go at sueing me for libel. You don't have a leg to stand on. I am waiting to see you behind bars personally. Just sitting, waiting, In the meantime, keep incriminating yourself smarty-pants. Love, Carl
Yet the only public data that we have is Daniel Mark Harrison selling nearly all his 1 x Billion $MNY scam coins on August 7th and 8th and keeping the BTC's.
I have done a great job now exposing the liar and crooked COiN maker, Daniel Harrison. Related to shady partners and history of non-successes. He makes up his own titles such as EDITOR in Chief..
Daniel Mark Harrison, why did you dump nearly all of your 1 x BILLION $MNY coins onto the market the day before and of the planned ICO where you claimed (= LIED) about having $250,000,000 to $1,000,000 plus secret investors and $2M in early July lined up for your deal?
Instead you sold and ran away and hid. Then put out hit pieces with fake information.
Daniel is a coward who is unable to have a direct conversation regarding simple questions.
The liar will run and hide with your money.
And again, THIS IS NOT MY WAVES WALLET ADDRESS. I will post all my accounts and info. the second Daniel Harrison gets a spine and post TRANSPARENT information. That includes:
MONKEY CAPITAL's Waves Wallet Addresses -- ALL OF THEM (then you can verify if I am this liar you claim I am)
When goldseek radio INTRODUCED Jim Rogers to Daniel, he wanted to invest. What happened?
Jim Rogers asked for his books. For financials. For transparency. Daniel would not disclose.
Daniel is hiding and attacking me for what again? I did not create fictitious MNY coins and sell nearly all of them on the market. then move the BTC's around different Daniel Harrison wallets, and moved them out.
I HAVE NEVER seen the address above. Daniel Harrison, the Editor in Chief of hit pieces and made up titles (look up EIC for coinspeaker), he can post the public wallet information and we can track it all.
Then you can see that i am not hiding anything. But If your own investment into Monkey Capital wont disclose their own information and post hit pieces with falsified data, then you deserve what is coming.

Not so great for steemit
There's so much negativity on Steemit lately it blows my mind. I can't help if it's a factor that is affecting the price.
amigo #resteemia at your service
'Just don't slander other users. It really is as simple as that. If people are found to be doing something unjust the world will find out. We don't have to use the Steem Blockchain in this way. Yes when you say something on the blockchain it is there forever. Always good to think about that.
@hilarski - Sire, I agree with you 100%. Slander without real proofs should not be done Sire. Love your writings Sire.
+W+ [UpVoted & ReSteemed]
Attacking a token as a scam is not slander. Token's aren't people.
I am in total agreement with keeping slander off of all social media platforms. No one every knows the full story, there are always two sides to every coin.
If someone does not measure up to your standards or the standards you expected from them, rather walk away and dust your feet off.
"Once bitten twice shy", there is nothing more true than that saying, so research is always a requirement. Research is a great way to avoid lending yourself to slander.
Another great post and food for thought @hilarski Steemit is for education, sharing of original content or curated works.
Hi,
I mostly agree with your post in the respect that going after people in such a manner is not very advisable. In this instance I feel your friend got his just deserts.
Any body can see for themselves that Peter had been doing all that he could to "advise" people to steer clear of the company in question. I'd actually call it an on going campaign of exactly what you're pointing out in this article, It's been like watching a man obsessed beyond anything natural. Right down to and including personal insults.
I actually only joined Steemit as I wanted to reply to one of his posts in which he called all of the coins in question dead. The truth was all were actually trading and ZUR in particular was up some 50% at the time!
I did notice he later corrected the mistake, but the fact is, due to poor research no doubt guided by his extreme bias, he effectively lied and that is now recorded forever.
The man has no credibility in my view and he is certainly no better than the counter post about his suspected dealings.
Just for the record I did lose a fair bit in the whole affair and so of course I'm angered at the constant hate campaign. Whilst I don't wish for anybody to make the same mistakes i have. I feel your friend has put enough information truths and not so truths out there that people should be able to make up their own minds.
Because Daniel Harrison came onto goldseek radio and our listeners believed him and end up buying into his pump and dumps and scams. Then Daniel puts out more lies about us so I have to expose the scammer and represent dozens and dozens of angry people. I feel responsible that he was allowed to be on the show and make up a lot lies to get people to buy into.

"prepare for more Exposure, FULL TIME!" hahahahaha more like GET READY for more sgm batshit crazy, even at steemit you are getting a reputation of being a total asshat. Is there not one place where you are not hated?
