According to our metrics that I shared in April the Steemit performance breakdown has improved dramatically in almost every metric.
Visitors are up.
Time on site is the same.
Page Views are down marginally.
Bounce Rate is up but barely.
These are all very good signs for the Steemit platform.
Where is the Steemit Traffic Coming From?
USA traffic has dropped as a percentage of the total amount by over 3% since April. This is a trend that I think is very positive for the platform as Steemit picks up steam internationally.
Steemit Traffic Sources.
Social has really broken out since our last update. Search has dropped which really requires specific actions like formatting posts, tagging properly and search engine optimization of your blog posts. I like to remind the community that our success greatly depends on the traffic that the site brings via search and social media. This is where we as a community can really help out. What can you do?
Format your articles to help the search engines index posts easier.
Properly title your posts. Short and too the point is best with a key word or two mixed in.
Use your allocated 5 tags properly.
Share your content to as many social media sites as possible.
Comment on other users content.
Follow other users.

Steemit Social Media Traffic.
Facebook dominance is declining for our social media traffic. For some reason sharing Steemit links on Facebook with a image preview is proving difficult. Twitter traffic continues to do well and I once again want to thank the development team for giving us Large Image Previews on Twitter. I think this change has helped us gain an edge. The Youtube traffic is truly impressive, keep up the great work all you video creators!

Growth of the @Steemit Twitter Account Over Time.
Back in April I was asked by the team to attempt an experiment. We stopped automatically retweeting which has greatly reduced our impressions but even though we stopped this our clicks to Steemit continue to rise. We have also seen an increase in the amount of accounts following us. If the team decides to resume the retweets I can begin immediately.

This Steemit user has not been active for two months. This proves the power of social media and imagery. 5 months after posting this image the traffic has begun to arrive. Make sure to SEO and add images to your posts. It helps to use cute images!

Seeing the US overall traffic grow by 135% while having the share of total traffic shrink is indeed amazing!
If the price of Steem drops we will see a slowdown again but I think we have plenty of momentum to keep us going until Steemfest in November.

Great traffic coming from the USA. It seems like Europe is except Spain, Germany and the Netherlands low traffic, and should be our next Steemit advertising campaing. Many creative people in the Europe. Great content creators, and the payrolls are low. Facebook ads are just milking money from Europeans. Thanks for sharing.
If Europe was all one traffic source it would definitely be number 1 or 2.

Hey New to steemit but been reading all your stuff. I do social media, marketing, sales. You name it I probably have done it. I am currently in process of a new project and came across steemit. When you say seo your posts. Could you please elaborate? is it similar or is steemit special?

Your post suggests to me that by staying active on other social media sites, we can link good steemit posts to those communities as well. If someone were to use their big facebook/twitter accounts, steemit posts could truly go viral. :)

I have 11K followers on Google+, but it is such a small contributor that the shares I do there don't even show up in the data?

Sorry if this is silly but not getting the destination sites. The referral sites i guess is people going to steem via those sites and destination sites is where they click on after visiting steem. If this is the case im not sure why that would be worthwhile collating destination sites.

Most of them just don't know about that stuff too much heh.

Share them on Twitter, and have Twitter automatically share to Facebook. There is a setting for it on Twitter.
Interesting stats!
One conclusion from this is that you should post during North American "prime time".
That would mean somewhere between 7-9 pm (US Eastern Time)
From the data we can tell that the US and Canada contribute for a total of 35% even though the international traffic is increasing its total share.
If you are writing in English this is definitely the case. My morning posts never do as well as my evening (EST) posts.

The problem is that each country counts individually. Maybe each state in the U.S. should be counted the same way.
I don't think that this is possible and there is no reason for that. From time to time we can just add the numbers from all European countries. At the moment we can see from the chart that US is way ahead of Europe according to users activity. We have a long way to go =D
And do not you think that we need to make more use of advertising in livejournal? There's practically nothing about Steem.

Great post and very helpful. I am trying to SEO my posts a lot more now but since I don't use Facebook or Twitter I can't really drive too much traffic to my posts other than the followers I already have here on Steemit. As an aside, as an expat, what do you think of buying in Belize? Looking to retire early and spend half the year in the US and half down below or near the equator. My goal/dream is to buy a Catamaran and live off of that most of the time sith a small permanent home in two locations, one in NY or another NE coastal state like Maine and the other in either Belize, the Bahamas or perhaps Panama. I like places that allow me to own property without too much trouble and where the USD can be used and banking is not very difficult. I have visited many expat websites but get a lot of gery different opinions all from personal opinion and subjective experience. But I figured why not ask someone who is already doing it. Maybe I can even do some charter trips once I get set up and generate some extra income on top of my savings, IRA's and all that jazz. #silver 😉✌️🇺🇸🌏
