Why Should I Be Here?
Now I'm not saying that everyone that first joins does not do well financially or gain influence quickly because I have seen that too but that is not necessarily the default. That is unless these creators are already popular or semi-known outside of the platform. People get discouraged for a number of reasons and leave. I want to present to you my 3 theories or thoughts on why people leave Steemit or DTube.
Reasons People Leave Steemit/DTube
- Making pennies on a post- People put alot of work into creating content only to get paid crumbs
- Hard To Find Their Place- People feel like they can't find community
- Don't See The Potential In These Platforms- People are unaware of the social and technological implications of Steemit/DTube
You could probably come up with other reasons for why people leave as I would love to hear your thoughts on it. If you are considering leaving Steemit or DTube or have considered it I would love to hear your thoughts. I see the potential of Steemit and even more so DTube but we have to be patient to see what new things develop over time. As always much love and peace to everyone.
What are some reasons why people leave Steemit/DTube?
Have you joined the OneLoveDtube discord group HERE?

Yes, you are right in your judgments. Many people come to the platform in order to get money. But they do not succeed and they leave. There is a category of talented but not persistent people. That is, they create amazing and interesting content, but they lack perseverance and patience. They create interesting content, but it remains untouched and they despair.
There is also a category of people for my personal observations. These are people who "are in a boat while there is no storm behind." For example, I spend time on forums about crypto-currencies. I noticed the pattern. When the price of cryptocurrency is growing - people write that everything is fine and it will be forever. But as soon as the value of the cryptocurrency falls, these same people write that this is the end. They rush into panic and arrange a funeral for this cryptocurrency. These people I call windy. In which direction the wind blows from that side they are looking. Today, this man is your friend, and tomorrow he is your enemy. This also applies to steemit. There are many such people here. When the cost of SBD was high - they praised the platform. Today, the cost is reduced and they just go away and say that this is the end. They do not try to understand that now the bear market and this is temporary.
I'm glad that there are people who believe in the platform and continue to work. Together we are the strength of the guys and we must continue our work. In the future, everyone who has spent his time and energy here - will be generously rewarded. You need to be patient and continue to work.
Thank you
Agreed, a factual observation. I have been on here since October and had that same hype as those you have spoken of. Started me self up and Posted bland content. Luckily, My recently Deceased friend (aka @adept) was a Computer Programmer and then some. Reason I am here now is his doing. Always had the heads up. His upvote was worth around $15.00 and really helped me out with getting upvoted, as well as gaining followers such as Dolphins or Whales. He had been hired by @ned and the team but sadly had passed on from Earth. So that, along with little to no rewards and followers lead me to step away from @Steemit.com.
Tho I had not lost faith nor do I really doubt the success @Steemit.com is and will attain. I came up with some tactics on how to gain the people and the money.
1. Optimism and Confidence- A MUST! Steemit is still in infancy stage. Of coarse there are mishaps. Steemit.com/Steem Blockchain is young and shall adapt 2. Consistency- In the idea that content I create has a core. A general basis of Theme and main topic that I bring to the platform most frequently 3. Find other Steemians that hold your interests and ALWAYS CHECK THEIR CONTENT and create a bond. They will do so as well 4. Blockchain/Crypto Education- The help is everywhere. Use the tools and do research.
That is a few ideals I can see as a huge aid here on Steemit.
That is it for now, time to sleep.
That is, one of the main conditions here is to contact other users (support, promotion, commenting). It is important to find people who will support your interests. Here the principle - "you to me, and I to you" works. Reciprocity.
Recently, I prefer to communicate with users in a discord. In a personal conversation, it's easier to start an interesting conversation and learn about a person and his goals. It is interesting.
Yes it seems that Discord and Steemit have somewhat of partnership here lol. Perfect Social interaction through Discord. I became aware of Discord after I had already been on here, so I never knew that Discord was generally for Gaming until few months back.
I too have never used discord before. Now this is the best tool for communication between users of steemit. This is a good decision. Are you a member of the discord communities?
yea about 10 of em. that is an estimate tho. World of Photography is one. That is a good server for taking Photo and doing contests. Follow @juliank, she is the creator of that community.
@frank1in Or you could say wishy washy haha. "I love steemit and the price is going through the roof". "I hate steemit because I am not making alot of money due to low steem prices"
I'm glad you got eh right mindset to keep putting in the work no matter what. I do the same buddy.
One of my friends doesn't join because of this, he went and saw my blog and told me : " you got some posts that made you 0.60$ that's nothing for all the trouble you had"... i told him "I'm starting out, it's normal for new people to not make that much money..."
People need to realize that social networks are like ladders, we need to climb them day by day, don't expect to make a post and bam 60$... after 1...2 years maybe, but not at the start, the only people that were able to do that much at the start were the ones that already had some following, like the hodgetwins or furiouspete, etc... they were already big youtubers in the fitness community...
I look at dtube /steemit as a 2 years investment, i'll keep posting, making my own content and in 2 years i will see where i go with it... yes it takes time, but i guess it's time well spent, at least it's better than me spending hundreads of hours in front of a TV screen or monitor watching TV shows or playing games right...
And people are leving because the price is going down... camon guys, the price can't always go up, if it did we were in a huge ass bubble, these types of corrections where the price lowers are healthy for the crypto market!
I think that is a solid plan you got there to stick with it for a couple of years. I have been on Steemit for about a year and a half now and I've come a long way from when I first started. So you are definitely headed in the right direction.
If you dont make big money on Steemit, but you see the potential to establish yourself into the community, than find a way how Steemit workes out for you.
-You can use steemit as a diary, all posts are stored for ever on the blockchain.
-You can use Steemit to meet interesting people
-Use your blog to as a tool to give, not to recive...
Have fun and stay creative!
If you use Steem in that way while ignoring the money aspect it doesn't sound that bad, but then again, the money aspect is what makes Steem awesome and most come for that reason.
They think it is easy to make money here but it isn't. They simply have the wrong expectations and go back to Twitter, Facebook, Wordpress or whatever and make $0 there for years.
Basically what @Teutonium said below:
If they all knew that before they probably wouldn't quit so early or join in the first place.
Im not ignoring the money aspect, i see myself making some income here but like you said it can be a long way to that goal.
But thinking about money, hiw much my posts make the first way is making me sick. It drains my creative and motivational energy.
To not quit i have to see what other things i get back for my invested time and the earlier metioned points are some of them.
My steemit careier is a long term investment thats why i honor your endurance man!
Thank you Bronko, just keep working.
Like you said, it is a huge time investment.
@bronkong Keep going man it will pay off for you. It will for all of us who keep moving forward and producing content. We have to have confidence even when times seem a little rough.
Yes i agree, great future for passioned and motivated people!💪💛
Another interesting disscusion by @humanearl sir...
Dtube is a video upload platform that runs on the steemit platform. Content creators upload videos to a channel. Dtube is structured very much like a YouTube alternative website. Everything about earning on steemit applies to Dtube. You still earn from votes, and you earn STEEM on content for seven days...
On Dtube you earn rewards from votes. Anybody can upload videos and earn votes if people like your content. Other than having a steemit account there are no requirements to earn STEEM. Dtube is also decentralized. Content cannot be removed or censored. Users control what content is shown by voting. DTubes open nature and easy way to earn money could be what attracts people....
As of January 2018, Dtube is still very much a new platform, and it shows. The platform lacks features a more mature website has. The fact that videos only earn for seven days means no long-term earnings. Content creators need to make a lot of content and upload videos often. Creators can't rely on old content to earn money....
Wel done and perfect work sir...
I really hope they change the amount of time you can monetize your content. This would be amazing if they did that.
Well yes this is indeed real easy to get out the income from but like the reasons you stated the 1st one seems to be the main reason behind it !
While in each & every business or any work hard work & determination is indeed needed !
Well I do really hope that people get to be here and enjoy the potential that this community holds !
Money is number 1 in most people's mind I believe. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that but people leave over the issue of not making enough money here even though other sites won't pay you anything at all.
I agree before Steemit I have seen many sites that pays cents only over a load of work and in compared to that Steemit should be the boss of them all !
People's misconception will ware away as the popularity of these community grows ahead !
I just Steemit with hype of if you can write you can earn, so join the bandwagon through training via whatsapp, I was actually happy because before the job I do can sufficiently fend for my need but join it was another game entirely. There are sometimes I feel like quitting, because of penny on posts but I just couldn't give up, that why some days I will not post and some other limitations. One thing that keep me pushing is that people are making it I CAN and I try to know why some people are getting good hits on their post, some have good steem power and some are creating values. So each time I want to post I first ask myself what value will my post be dishing out, though I am not niche based.
For Me cents on post is what is mainly make newcomers to quit Steemit because of the high hope they gave them about Steemit
Just keep giving value man. Your work is good so just keep improving it and getting better. You have tons to offer. If you love doing it then continue.
Thanks for the kind words
The three reasons you have pointed are very valid. These are the top most reasons for leaving this amazing platform.
There are a lot of people who have very small SP and low reputation score but they create quality content. Their blogs don't get enough attention so they are frustrated and leave platform.
Some people come here to gain quick money but that is not possible unless you persevere and create quality content and make strong bonds with people. They don't want to wait and desperately quit steemit. Doing consistent efforts and staying on track is the key to be able to get success on this forum.
One more reason is that not every one is blessed with creativity. Some people cannot find their niche to make quality content so they only try to curate and comment on others' blogs. Some times they don't find good response, dishearten and leave the community.
As you have stated patience is the key to get success. Thank you @humanearl for a thoughtful blog.
I've been asked that question many times. "What should I talk about in my writings or videos?" I simply say talk about what you really enjoy talking about because there will be others who enjoy it as well.
It's also hard to figure out.
Amen Brother,if you all stick together and support each other, continuous building your block party!

Hmm. I hear you on that one brother. You can do more with support than you can do going alone.
@humanearl,
You are absolutely correct, lots of people joined with me and most of them left this platform or less active now! Anyway, people who understand the concept and the way that could make money and attention, still doing well!
Great that you decided to discuss this matter!
Cheers~
I can;t tell you how many people that have come and gone on my posts in the last year and a half. It;s been so many but you have to continue moving forward.
@humanearl sir...
Again....smart ideas about steemit....
I also noted most of the content on Dtube and steemit are self-referential. People are making lots of videos about steemit and Dtube. The platforms also tend to focus on cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency projects. I don't think this type of content will appeal to mass audiences. People will want to watch videos on things they like. To be fair there is some original content on Dtube though. There is also nothing wrong with being excited about a platform in the beginning either. Just as long eventually people do start to post original content that everybody loves.
Steemit also has a unique problem with certain users. Some people are worried that users with the most Steem Power are getting the most STEEM and using their power to prevent others from doing so. These users are called Whales. Keep in mind that users with lots of Steem Power or Whales make a much higher contribution when they vote on content versus smaller users. Some small users or minnows feel like they don't get any contribution rewards or very little rewards.
It is far too early to know if steemit, Dtube and, other steemit based platforms have a future. Steemit seems promising, but many startups do. Being promising does not prevent failure. The future of Dtube and steemit are very much connected. Dtube relies on steemit. If steemit grows and gain many users, Dtube will probably as well. DTube needs more content creators and viewers. If Dtube does gain a user base, it could possibly be a website that stands out from YouTube due to its policies. But I am not bold enough to make a claim like Dtube will surpass YouTube. It seems for now YouTube will remain king. I will be very curious to see how steemit and DTube are doing years later...
So is Dtube a good alternative to YouTube? It really depends on if users are willing to give the website a try. The developers of the website also have a lot of things to add and features to polish...
Good luck...
The crazy thing is that we are still in Beta with Steemit and Dtube. So there will most likely be massive improvements in the next couple of years.
Another thing you mentioned about the SP issues. Yes there are many right now trying to downvote people's content that they disagree with. This is a huge problem and it could severely effect the future of steemit and dtube.
i guess its mostly due to the first thing money because when you sign up here the website itself says money speaks lol
See there that's why people think they will make loads of money when they jump on because of that kind of marketing.
My opinion if you like someone post then click on upvote but if you don't like someone content then ignore the post. I see many peoples are leaving steemit for this reason. Maybe flagging is the steemit biggest mistake. Flagging system makes a very bad impression on new users because new users don't know about rules and terms of steemit and when they post something they will get a lot of flags and they think steemit just a spam.
Thank you @humanearl for kind support.
Yes exaclty. I see no reason why people waste time going around downvoting content. If you don;t like it then just ignore it and don't give any attention to it.
@humanearl, i am thinking also if some one leaving from steemit can be your three reasons.people don't know how to use technological implications of Steemit, yes of course then their mind "we can't do,so we are leaving " like that.
It is definitely a culture and technology shock when people first get on. That's another reason why I try to help new people gain a better understanding of how things work on the platform.
@humanearl - Sir I'm not blaming... But it's hard to make an earning in this platform... A set of giant whales are controlling the Steem ocean :( But as a minnow I'm trying to do my best Sir... Hope I can write a success story...
+W+
I agree with you all the way. Just find your voice. Enjoy what you post about and give value to the community in some ways. People will respect you for doing that.
Like you rightly said, a sweet and pleasant picture is painted for these persons and when they come in, they see an entirely different ball game.
I know of a guy who I would like to refer to as a Facebook whale because he gets over 200 likes on anything he posts but he came to steemit and have spent nearly two months but still can't understand the concept of steemit. After coming across him and having intensive Chats with on whatsapp, I came up with these few reasons why people tend to get frustrated on steemit and leave or abandon their accounts thereafter ;
¶ most people are generally not given proper orientation of steemit before joining
¶ steemit is just basically for Internet-surfing lovers, seekers of financial freedom(which should serve as a motivation), people who love to read and write. If the person doesn't fall within the listed categories, he or she could find steemit frustrating
¶steemit is also for the smart simply because of the complex terms and crypto terminologies used and so, if the person is not smart enough to understand and decipher these terms such as smt, sbd, steem power, steem dollars etc... Steemit becomes a hard nut to crack. It will interest you to know that a newbie recently asked me to explain the difference between steem dollars and sbd
¶finally poor Internet connection could be a very important reason too as this is frequently experienced in my country where it takes close to a minute or more to get a content posted or even to make a simple upvote/resteem. It's really frustrating and it takes someone with a lot of patience to overcome this huddle
Man these are also great reasons. You summed it up nicely. Thanks for sharing that
Wonderful post ..thanks for sharing...Best of luck friend ✫ resteemid

This is a great topic for research @humanearl. Thanks for posting it. I believe there are a number of reasons for people leaving Steemit and or DTube. There are many reason for not posting on Steemit anymore- you outlined many of them. But the underlying reason people stop posting- is because they think that they can just come in here and make a gazillion dollars without doing anything. It takes work here to post, gain followers, and ultimately make money from Steemit. Great post- upvoted & resteemed.
They think this is the land of milk and honey. But they don;t understand the level of work and grit it takes to succeed here. I'm with you.
Good post @humanearl.
I'm not making much out of this (at least not yet) but I am making at least a little from https://steemit.com, https://d.tube & such the likes which is more than I would ever get from facebook no matter how many 'likes' my posts had received from other members.
Besides, it's not just about the possible revenue from steemit, it's more to me about decentralisation & complete freedom of the internet without censorship.
Steemit won't be going away anywhere soon, I think this is just the beginning of the new age of things to come. In time, this platform could have the power to take out all of the bad guys with their underhand business tactics.
Here are some good reasons to leave facebook, google etc:

and more here:

Anyway, thanks for this post and have a good day sir!
@donkeysworld
Those are big topics right now in society. Decentralization and censorship. Hopefully Steemit can lead the way in the social media space in those regards.

This community searches the new things and enriches the valuable knowledge...
so i like this steem..

@upvoted
wondrful post
thank for sharing the experiance for youre life
I could not agree more with your three reasons. I was very fortunate starting out. I met someone right away that upvoted me and helped to motivate me to keep going. At first it can be very disappointing when you do not make very much on your post or videos.
My goal has always been to try and encourage others. My vote is not worth much yet but someday it will be and I want to pay it forward for people supporting me early on. Once you get going on here and stick with it, I think it becomes a lot more about the community and friendships then the money. The money is just a side benefit. But getting started is alot of work and can be frustrating at time. Great post! Keep them coming
Some people are fortunate to have that. Great for you. And plus you give value to the community and I love your work. I love encouraging others as well.
the first photo is beotiful
nice video
@humanearl Nobody say that it is really easy to make money on Steemit, most of this people abondone perhaps because they are not perseverant enough, and it is important that a good number of people get to know you to vote your posts. I just post this and i only get 3 votes, but i am still here.
Patience and perseverance are a must for any new person.
@humanearl It is true, a lot of marketing around steemit being done currently is that it is a quick way to make money online. Which is attracting a lot of the make money online crowd. Steemit to me is a community, it is a social network, with benefits (sounds a lot like friends with benefits ;) LOL so yeah, coming here to make a quick buck, is going to disappoint many people, which is healthy for the community. Because, it is better that people who stay on steemit stay for the right reasons. Just viewing content with eyes of $ is going to make for a very stressed out group of people.
My take is, you can always find 45-60 mins every day, and come here, give some value, share some upvotes, and take it from there.
As to money, keep that coming from wherever else it was coming before you joined steemit. Until Steemit grows at a level for you, that you can increase the time you spend here.
The growth got to be gradual.
Cheers!
The social aspect should be the most important thing. But the idea to make money quickly is causing lots to be disappointed.
very insightful @humanearl
There are only 2 reasons i would leave dtube
That being said i will still use dtube (for now) in the hope that they solve these problems. I'm sure they will.
I notice too that the videos start and stop and start again. Hopefully they will fix that issue. I think it's a great decision thought to hop on dtube and produce content right now.
@humanearl, Absolutely you given three main reasons, totally agree who's leave from steemit platform. I have seen lot of minnows create greatest contest in this platform. But they haven't big whales in their follower list. So they received only low rewards and you can see big wales (trending content creators) earned more rewards via big curation. In fact minnows really disappointed with steemit/ Dtube and decide to leave from here.
But I have various steemit first period very tough time to earn and stay without patience. I've read big post creator's post how to stay log time in steem blockchain and how to earn more. Everyone who came to steem blockchain only has small SP. But after growth up they earned much power. In fact power up better solution for earn more rewards. Also if you can be patience sure you'll grow much better in future.
And the thing is that some poeple are in the trending section only because of the use of bots. I'm not against using bots but I think it should be used while also providing value to the community.
I think people come here looking for a quick buck...and get some crypto instead. And they think short term...like "gee, these tokens don't buy me many federal reserve notes, today, so this is just a waste of my time."
We're all brain-washed to think that value only exists if we can get federal reserve notes for something we own.
In Bitcoin's early days, it was super easy to mine coins, that were worth less than $3. Anyone that held them, are millionaires today.
I have no interest in a YouTube platform, getting some crumbs while advertisers cash in. But I see the potential of generating some Steem, which I can hold for a while and watch while the value increases over time.
Long-term investments are super popular these days.
IMHO, there is wisdom in getting in now, and staking one's claim, even if one doesn't get a stack of federal reserve notes today.
Gosh I love you insight on this. We are the early adopters and sticking with it is a good decision in my opinion. I really hope we don;t always have to convert back to fiat just to buy things but the powers that be will try to keep things that way.
Darn typo: My next to the last sentence should say: long-term investments are NOT super popular....
I'm 100 percent agreed with each and every point you have discussed in the video,
Everyone wants to get noticed, but It is really hard to get noticed,
Things really look pretty cool when we saw them from the distance, but when you dig into that thing, I become complex,
here whales are upvoting each other, some of them are supporting minnows too, but most of them are just playing the games.
Frustration, demotivation, not getting paid,
not having proper knowledge is also the main reason for people to leave, you haven't mentioned it in your video.
Many are abusing power. There are some that want to help. This is why I have a heart to help people that get on. Many are discouraged when they come here so I get what you are saying.
Yes thankyou
Yes a lot of people left steem due to mentioned reason and the biggest reason is least reward for their hardwork. Need of money is mandatory to run life cycle if any thing don't give you enough money you will prefer to leave. Same is the case here. Steem, Steepshot and Dtube are doing wonder for the people but to become successful in any platform you need some time. patience is virtue. Frankly speaking it is not a platform for earning your bread especially for newbies. However once you cement your position you can do wonder for yourself and your family. For this purpose you need a lot of patience, hardwork and time. All the best.
Those 3 ingredients you mentioned at the end are spot on. This is what people need to have in order to keep staying involved with the steemit/dtube community.
nice post
People usually see the post payout and do not see the hard work behind that post and when they aspire for the same way of earning from steemit and their post and dont earn from the very first day, then they simply blame steemit.
So the truth is that very few people do the hard work and most of the new comers come here with get rich quick.
Second take for me is that "when others are fearful, you should be greedy" and right now the crypto market is deep red, so people are uttering all sort of non sense and they are not seeing the long term prospect of this ecosystem.
So I would like to be greedy right now and would spend more time with steem and steemit.
That is my motto.
Thanks @humanearl.
Great mindset. Others right now are discouraged and looking away instead of finding the opportunities to continue growing and building.
All three of those reasons may generally apply. When rediscovered my account last February, I made a decent $20 in a month, but I had searched for people I could connect with on a human level. It's not easy I admit, but I see the potential of the platform.
What I find disappointing is the aura of grandeur that surrounds some of the big fish.
However that is a human flaw, which is detected in every area of life....the need for the ego to prevail.
Luckily there are many wonderful people on Steemit.
Sometimes I feel bad for distinguishing between minnows, whales, and dolphins for the sake of not trying to label or box people in but that's what we've come up with to identify the levels on steemit. You would think the Whales would always operate with others in mind but that's not always the case.
The 1st one on your theories I think is the major reason.
