Question About Creating/Editing a Post on Steemit 🌀

in #steemit • 7 years ago

I prefer building my posts using the editor, so that the html isn't distracting me.

When I think I'm ready to post, I check what it will look like by pressing the "Raw HTML" button which shows the preview.

I also then <center> any images, and insert the html code <hr></hr> in a couple places to make header or footer lines as needed. This is okay if the post really is ready to go. But if I change my mind and want for instance, to add another link, it's easier to do it on the editor rather than in html. But when switching back to the editor, the <hr></hr> codes disappear, and any <center>content</center> codes revert to <p>content</p>.

So after making any changes using the editor, I must recenter and/or add the footers again in the raw html.

Why do these command lines not get saved despite the "draft saved" notification after every stroke? Any new content gets saved, just not the commands for how to treat it...

I don't really see what I could be doing wrong, but if someone has an explanation, I'd appreciate it, please^^

(Distracting cat.)

Thanks For Your Attention and Support!

I personally use use the sure that much, I majorly use busy raw editor and esteem app.

I put html in the markdown editor, never use the html editor.

I made this video to show how I do it.

Good video, thanks! I guess the < div > code stays when you go to edit after posting? I will have to try out your method, but my editing screen looks a little different than yours, unless you are in fact using the "raw html" side? Maybe we use different browsers or something. If I can, I will make a post to show the difference...

Cheers^^

A few hours later and I finally made a post! Thanks brother :)

Do you ever try to use https://busy.org/ It's a bit more convenient

I usually like keeping as few accounts as possible, so I haven't tried it. But thanks!

I've found the Editor doesn't give me as much control and sometimes loses the HTML format which is which I try to stick to HTML unless I need a fast post.

Thanks for letting me know it's not only me who loses the formatting. I guess I'll just stick to the method of going to the html when I think it's ready on the editor. All good^^

Long time ago, I found that when I go back end edit a post I made in HTML and update, I found the formatting totally mess up. After a few times, I be very careful and better to fixed the issue outside and cut and paste in the whole thing again.

Yeah, when I'm working on a post for a couple of days, I sometimes build it on a outside document then copy it in here.

Have you ever heard someone from steemit talk about the cause of the lost formatting? I have not...

No, not sure if they even know :-)
I mostly work on outside document. Mostly Google docs that autosave.
I know the Editor save the partial many times but I trust the Google docs more after I have problem with my laptop dying and crashing 2 years ago resulting lost of the documents I was working with many times. I think that's like 3 months after I join steemit. I switched to Google docs and eventually that laptop died but the Google doc habit sticks with me and I found less reason to move away it it seems quite stable.
In between I heard about stackedit and tried it but still ended using Google docs. I just have a look again and seems they have newer version/feature. You can find that here: https://stackedit.io/app#
There's an old post I saw: https://steemit.com/howto/@future24/tutorial-how-to-use-the-stackedit-editor-for-publishing-steemit-articles-easily-english-german
Just be safe and don't go all out till you are happy with the stability. :-)

Ooh, I know that feeling!

About a year ago I used googledocs for a while so I could edit from multiple devices, but then I just got into the habit of doing everything on one computer again. Maybe it's worth a try again for a while to see if I like it.

I'm tired of all the accounts everywhere so I doubt I'll try stackedit, but I appreciate the suggestion^^

I'd be very surprised if steemit doesn't already know about this problem, because it has been happening since I signed up here, iirc.

Ah yes, I forgot the multiple device part. I'll prepare on the laptop. Edit on the phone. Then post on the laptop or phone later. If you do go back google docs, you can also consider getting an Add-on like Markdown Preview. It's not a 100% match but it's useful when you do edit on the computer.

I'm sorry I can't answer, usually I use markdown for my work, but thank you for the

which I didn't know about and for explaining your editing process.. a good occasion to learn!

That's ok.

Thanks and you're welcome :)
