Mango and Tamarind: Allies of Health.

Fruits represent an inexhaustible range of flavors, aromas and colors that also provide part of the nutrients that the body needs, a clear example of these virtues are mango and tamarind that contain a high nutritional value, which makes them ideal for consuming as usual.


The mango, is one of the fruits of greater commercial demand in the world, is a fruit that is known worldwide for its rich flavor, and special aroma, in addition to its many nutritional qualities as it is rich in minerals, fibers , vitamins and provitamins.

According to the National Institute of Nutrition of Venezuela, mango provides 75 calories to the body, is a natural source of energy, vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, sodium, potassium, vitamins A, B, B1, B2, B6, C, also contains ascorbic acid, carotenoids, and polyphenols present in the edible part of the fruit that give antioxidant properties and natural fiber, essential for good intestinal functioning, so it is considered highly beneficial for health.

In Venezuela mangoes are cultivated since the mid-seventeenth century, the handle of Hilacha, snack, manga, mango jobo, mango cambur, manga and mango water are the most produced and is very common to see them in patios, parks, gardens and even on the street.

For its part, the tamarind native to tropical Africa, is cultivated very well in Venezuelan lands, belongs to the order of legumes and its main product is its fleshy and acid pulp, which is a rich source of vitamins and important minerals.

The pulp constitutes 40% of the fruit and is a source of vitamin C and B, 100 grams of ripe fruit contains 115 calories, 3 grams of protein and 18 grams of carbohydrates. Its acidity obeys to the presence of tartaric, acetic and ascorbic acid; It also contains thiamine, essential vitamin for the proper functioning of the nerves, muscles and digestive system.

Several studies indicate that tamarind has medicinal properties, including natural antioxidants and fibers that help reduce bad cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular disease.
