Potential Steemit Improvements: Suggestions & Discussion

in #steemit8 years ago

Steemit's a great platform. About 15% of all posts on Steemit begin that way, but there's a reason for that: it's true. But these are still early days for Steemit and the Steem blockchain. The community has worked assiduously to continue to improve and add value to the platform, and one of the ways it does that is by making suggestions that catch on and make their way to developer and witness ears.

So I thought I'd make a post about the improvements that I'd like to see and with any luck spark some discussion here in the comments or elsewhere that might lead to making the interface even better than it already is. Without further ado, here are my ideas:

Calendar Archives

For those of us that have been posting for nearly a year getting to our posts is getting out of hand. Schowrolling down to look at a post you made six months ago, let alone a year, can get a bit tedious. God forbid you should want to find a post from an exact day six months ago. Not happening.

Reputation Has A Slight Effect On Your Visibility

This one's dangerous, I know that. I'm not 100% certain that it's a good idea, because on a small level this is built into Steemit naturally. People that are more active on the platform are already naturally more visible. Also, resteems are a thing. With time you get more followers and therefore, in theory, more resteems. However, there's nothing worse than posting an article after an hour of work, only to have it pushed out of sight within seconds by a torrential downpour of single paragraph posts (if that, sometimes it's a sentence) and junk posts...

I agree that the effect should be extremely slight if this were implemented and that it's better not to implement than to do so incorrectly, but I'm convinced that this is worthy of consideration.

Videos

I won't pretend to have even an inkling of an idea about how this would be implemented. I'm not even sure if this is possible on the blockchain. But her, in theory there's no such thing as a stupid question, right? So I'm askin'. The ability of the platform to integrate videos into the blockchain might well be a mixed blessing. One of the things I love about Steemit is, unlike Youtube, it's accessible for all creators regardless of if they have an elaborate setup. You just need a computer and a connection to the net. Maybe any such platform should be separate from Steemit.com? I dunno, not really serious about this one - it was just an idea I thought I would include so that someone more informed than me could totally school me on why it isn't possible (or isn't possible right now).

These suggestions aren't me complaining about the site. The site is great, and it's come a long way. Also, I'm sure other people have had to have thought about some of these things. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I agree i hope steemit will try to improve on these points.

Here's hoping!

I agree with you. That's some good suggestions.
