Let's face it, the moment Google APIs started using the OAuth 2.0 protocol, our lives with Google went better in a lot of ways.
The OAuth 2.0 framework uses a third-party app to obtain some access to certain service, like.. i don't know: Google.
You might be using it already when an application you use (like SoundCloud) requires an account to use its services. Check my following screenshot:
Do you see the Google button at the top of the login form of pocket? Well, the OAuth 2.0 protocol gives you the ability to log in using your Google account without having to register a new account or typing password, etc.
SteemConnect works on the same principle as I can see. If you use an Steemit Android application (like Steemia) it gives you the chance to login using the SteemConnect service with the goal of authenticate on Steemit without having to type your posting keys or account password.
This is the way I see it and I can only be grateful and congratulate the people who worked hard for us: the users!
May the force be with you, guys!
Download Steemia app from Google Play.
