Fragile perception under huge numbers
I started to use Steemit recently and I really like it. But after some time I started to be aware
how rewards information auto-adjust my view when reading articles. Sometimes conscionsly and probably always subconsciously it manipules my perception of how I see the article and I must say I don't like it.
When a reward is high, I'm manipulated to think to something like : " This article must be great". After reading I often think : "it's stupid but well rewarded but because of whale/celebrity/provocativeness/stupidity". And so although I like Steem and reward system, the reward info disturbs me while scrolling the list of articles.
Actually, I can say that I prefer articles where Reward = $0.00. And even though
in such a case my brain is saying, well, probably bad article without reward, skip it and often I do. So after all the area where I feel lowest level of manipulation are articles which a minute old only. That's where I don't feel manipulated or biased.
As result I would appreciate to hide rewards at on article list or show them only when requested (on click maybe). I might even write some script myself to hide them. Or it would be much better to see it sorted articles according to a number of upvotes with upvote information rather than absolute reward in USD. I would definitely like to see more sorting options and ability to customize it.
What do you think about this?
Until now, whales are in control. That's how Steemit works
I don't have problem with whales. They are early investors and their reward is fair because they took some risk. My point is about improving UI so Steem can be a better / more usable. Everyone can benefit then.
