Now, I am going to preface this post, with the fact it is a semi-rant. So that said, feel free to read on, or go pound sand. Your choice.
I spend a great deal of my time on Steemit reading, commenting, upvoting people and their content. My LOVE of reading posts of others, commenting on and upvoting those posts (that are worth reading), has grown over the last 4 months.
Today however, I just don’t feel that same amount of love is being returned.
Now, I am not one of those people that are on Steemit thinking everyone will like everything I post, or I will strike it rich. That is not me. I just enjoy the social nature of the platform.
That said, it is not all that hard to take a peek at someone else’s profile when they comment on your post. It is not that hard to take the time to read their latest post. It is not that hard to leave a comment on their post. And finally, if you feel it is worthy, it is not that hard to click the upvote button.
Personally, it seems that sometimes Steemit is a one-way relationship. There is no doubt in my mind that there are those that could give a rat’s ass about the social nature of Steemit or building relationships with others. Some are just here to make a few pennies.
Wouldn’t this platform be so much more enjoyable and fun if people just became social?
My goals for Steemit can be summed up into a couple of words “BE SOCIAL”. Spend your time creating content for sure and good content at that. However, spend more time getting to know people, reading posts, carrying on a conversation in the comments, upvoting those posts you love.
Personally, I don’t pay much attention to my SP or SBD or any of that stuff. I just like meeting people through their content and interacting with them. Yes, I am here to get my content “out there”, read and visitors to my website. That is a fact and I do not hide it at all. However, my priority is to build relationships with the people behind those eyeballs that are looking at my posts and website.
So, in summary, I just wish people used Steemit like a two-way street, that their priority was to meet people, read good content and build relationships.
Am I expecting too much?

Yes, you are expecting too much. Sorry, that came out harsh.
I think a lot of people love the social side of Steemit but let's be real - even more people are here just to make money...
That's what happens when you tell people that they can make money by posting and then send them to the Trending page with articles making hundreds of dollars. One of the entrepreneurs I know did exactly that and now he is trying to make money here by automating everything. Even the comments. He doesn't see the value in creating relationships here unless the people are whales...it's kinda sad because I also love the interaction. I might like it even more than actual posting.
I guess you should just find a handful of people and bond with them. In real life, people also don't immediately build relationships, it takes time...
Anyway, say it out loud and move on, it's not worth to be too pissed off about things you cannot change ;)
That's the biggest issue I see too. People are just trying to get on the whales radar for the upvote or reputation increase...
I agree with you, the interaction is fantastic and so much value in it. Would love to see more people engaging with the 'minnows' per se because they are the future of the blockchain here. The 'happier' they are the more they will spread the word about Steem, which makes it a win win...
Engage daily for sure :)
That is the plan!
Engage daily and rock the world. Maybe one day, a thought will inspire someone and make something profound that may change our way of life for the better! ^0^
I probably am expecting too much. Just some thoughts that rolled through my head last night and thought I would turn them into a post and see what folks like you had to say.
Thanks
I would also suggest don't take it too personally. Perhaps we're the better steemians ^o~
"Be the person you want to meet" I'm sure there's plenty of steemians that would appreciate the time, effort and care. Mayhaps like Nuturing others will help them grow and we'll mutually grow too ^0^
I dunno, but I'm hopeful
I agree, I would like to make a few extra dollars, but I am trying to become part of the community and hope to find my niche.
@mytechtrail welcome and you will, it just will take us time. followed ya
Thanks for the follow. I had already followed you and found this post while browsing your older posts.
Well that makes me feel good that someone is actually reading them :-)
I feel exactly the same, I'm new here but I can already feel that most people here only care about the money part and want people to give them votes and follows but don't want to do the same with others. I personally love connecting with people, I love returning the love people give my posts (if they are good) and taking time to read and check what others are doing. I think this platform only makes sense when people connect with each other...
Well welcome then. I am headed over to check out your posts now :-)
I have found you just have to keep plugging along. You will find people that you like to follow and read their posts. People will find yours as well. It just takes time. Don't give up.
You're certainly not expecting too much, and this is exactly why you were the BEST candidate to receive our delegation. People see what value you're bringing to the platform and truly want to build a relationship with you. Keep doing what you're doing because we need more people just like you to come on over to Steemit!! 😊
Thank you for this honor! It is much appreciated.
Congratulations! \^0^/
I'm thankful for the people I've met on steemit, same goes for you good sir ^0^
I'm proud to see some how much people have grown on steemit with their content. I admire the dedication. I agree with you it is disheartening when posts get no interaction especially when asking for help. T^T it's hard to get notice and make waves. And using bots is no fun and not genuine.
Thankful for meeting folks like you too Kitty!
It is hard, but I am dedicated and stubborn!
Lol XD nobody said being stubborn was a bad trait. Giving up isn't an option when we're passionate about it >:D
