In my opinion they need to bring some updates, right now you could make the most money by upvoting your own posts or the posts of famous people (which are more likely to go viral) which is bad since everybody wants to make money.
Also whales dominate the platform and do you really want to be on a platform that is dominated by people with money ?
On the other hand, if we wouldn´t have people buying SP Steemit wouldn´t work (someone needs to pay for the servers, development,...).
How about enabling advertising ?
Would you pay to make a post on steemit ?

Had an argument with someone in the steemit-chat, he found out my profile and flagged every post... (sadly he has 100x the SP of me)
