I'm also in the UK... I have heard (completely unverified source mind you!) that the best time to post for us is between 3pm and 11pm. Personally I've not noticed much difference in posting times, but I'm also a newbie, so perhaps this makes more of a difference the more followers you have? Anyway, followed! :)
Yeah, I think attracting followers to begin with can be tricky! Especially if you're posting and your posts are just being unnoticed.
But as soon as you start getting followers, they see your posts come up in their feed. :)
