That's a huge annoyance.
After a shutdown, I config-steemd and restart it in "synconly", which doesn't include any miners and usually doesn't corrupt the DB when killed. Then, after it's has re-indexed and re-synced, I shutdown again and my DB is rebuilt and ready to go.
