Any messaging scheme that leverages the blockchain is by definition public; the only way to do so and maintain confidentiality would be to use a public-private encryption methodology.

I never thought of it like that in all honesty, but you are very right Mr. Peters. A new private cryptographic messaging system is not the easiest thing to just add to this platform. However, I do see it in future versions of steemit.
