So I have been on steemit for little over a month now and I used to struggle to get over 10 quality up votes for my posts. However things are changing slowly, my number of up votes haven't changed much but the quality of them sure has!
I have a few suggestions as to how newbies here can get a great start, especially if they are struggling!
Engagement:
This is the number 1 way to gain genuine followers and repeat viewers.
Go comment crazy but never leave some silly irrelevant comment, it will simply be ignored and most importantly do not ask for follows or up votes, this will annoy many users.
Reply to every single response you get, do not ignore your viewers! They are the users that up vote you and generate your income here on steemit.
Randowhale
Yes I know I have been going on about randowhale a lot lately, but if you have some SBD/Steem in your account, it is a great service for post promotion. If you want to know more about randowhale have a look at some of my recent posts!
Re-steem bot
This service resteems your post for as little as 0.001 SBD/Steem. While it doesn't work great and it's still very much new, it's dirt cheap and often gains you an extra 5 viewers or so!
Post at the correct time
At 06:00 GMT we have the most active number of users here on steemit, the more people see your post the more likely you are to gain an upvote!
Post consistently
Don't do 5 posts in one day and then only one more a few days down the line. Try to post a maximum of 4 times per day and a minimum of once every second day!
Whale power
If you have any friends on the site that are whales ask them for some help! But don't become a gold digger and suck up to whales just to get their vote!
Follow me and join my team of minnows who are soon to become dolphins! Together we can make it happen!
So you are probably wondering were this free give away deal is right? I wanted to make sure you would have read the post first. So here you go! The first person to follow me and comment on this post (No bots) will receive a 1 dollar up vote!
Hey there! Some good advice for newcomers. Gaining an organic audience is the way. I have found i have an aversion to prople looking for f4f or who simply say: i upvoted you, now upvote me. I mean, c'mon, this is a social network -- say something interesting for chrissakes... put up some good content and engage with people! It's the only way to build a solid profile.
Cheers! from @thedamus
I definitely agree, Follow for follow and up vote for up vote is a system that should be banned, I mean really if you trading one up vote for another simply up vote you own comment on top of that you have a bunch of users trying to find the easy way out by "harassing" other users!
Yep!
Good tips but I think you have to be careful with that Randowhale upvote. It isn't always a good return especially when it's voting power is low like it is now around 33%. When you figure in the author only gets 75% of the upvote you are losing money.
Hi @longfield98 welcome to Steemit!
This is a great place with a great community
-- glad to have you around!
I look forward to reading your blog.
All the best...

Check out your dollar (Dollar 50) up vote here
I joined you, let's go #DolphinSquad!
Nice suggestions, but is it worth spending money? I barely get many upvotes and what not alone, but I feel spending money to get more money is sort of a poor decision if you are a minnow.
This chiefly comes from my doubt on whether or not to promote which specific posts. Some of my posts are rammbles and others are content.
Followed you back! Tell you what, It costs me 1 dollar to up vote your post, lets see how much you end up getting out of it using randowhale - it may take a few hours randowhale seems to be a little slow today. I wouldn't really bother promoting a post that isn't high quality. :)
Geez, did you pay to get the 100+ SP or was that simply coming from promotions?
I made an investment in steem power! The returns are absolutely great! I made a post about it!
I sort of understand it from skimming the white pages, but I'm not the most comprehensive on all the lingo and therefore I don't really get a full understanding.
Regardless, I gained enough understanding to switch my posts to power up instead of 50/50 because I wanted to get as much influence as possible before trying to cash out heavily.
Does the power compound AS it pays out or even while you hold it?
How does inflation account for changes? It can compound every minute, but as more users join and more users posts, the real-effect can go down in value.
Did you load money outside of STEEM in order to try get these returns? I don't see much reason to go through the whole process of turning USD into BTC into SP when I could simply just cruise it and slowly gain or use the previously earned STEEM to trade on markets and then get the STEEM back in time to convert into SP and then enjoy the returns.
Okay great powering up 100% is by far the best idea!
The SP gets compounded while you power down and whilst it sits there!
Inflation has no affect what so ever. However the value of steem will no doubt have an influence on the value (100 SP will still be 100SP but it will be worth more USD. I believe the system can handle the number of users and it should not have any affect for the next few years.
I went ahead and used some of my bitcoin money to purchase steem power, poor decision as I could have rather purchased SBD and then made use of randowhale which in turn would have eventually turned into steem power and would have been more in the end. But hey we learn the hard way and it definitely won't be my last deposit into steemit. I plan on depositing a minimum of 70SBD per month.
I believe the value of steem will reach 10USD in the following 2 years.
I get confused by the two numbers under steem power. Should I power down? This would convert the 6 STEEM in SP into STEEM which I can then put back into SBD to purchase for randowhale.
The other 27, I assume is organic, correct? If so, is it smarter to power down and accrue interest or to hold as much SP as possible until I reach about $1 per like and THEN power down?
Very nice steem, love your advice ! Thank you!π

That seems pretty cool. Am new and am struggling to get noticed , i got followers who follow to follow not to see my posts , its weird why do people do this . Am trying to engaged more with others stuff. Upvoted have a nice day
Thank you! Well the main reason people follow but don't ever view is because the users are simply following you looking for a new follower. They often don't use their feed.
Your post touches many of the same thoughts I have had. I too, am new to steemit and while the UPvotes are slowly coming, I have progressed and tweaked my writing.
Being consistent is important; especially if you are trying to build a platform and brand.
Thanks longfield98. I am pretty new to all of this, so that was helpful!
