RE: Is GrumpyCat Abusing It's SteemPower?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I am increasingly seeing people becoming victims of irrational flags! I don't think it is healthy to be policed like this. If the system doesn't want users to use bots, they should address it in a better way instead of flagging people left right and center.

I just started following you now after reading this post, so you have the support of the people :D

This story in the Steemit white paper sums the situation up pretty nicely

The Story of the Crab Bucket
A man was walking along the beach and saw another man fishing in the surf with a bait bucket beside him. As he drew closer, he saw that the bait bucket had no lid and had live crabs inside.
"Why don't you cover your bait bucket so the crabs won't escape?", he said.
"You don't understand.", the man replied, "If there is one crab in the bucket it would surely crawl out very quickly. However, when there are many crabs in the bucket, if one tries to crawl up the side, the others grab hold of it and pull it back down so that it will share the same fate as the rest of them."
So it is with people. If one tries to do something different, get better grades, improve herself, escape her environment, or dream big dreams, other people will try to drag her back down to share their fate.

Did the white paper have a proposed solution to this? Or was it just a warning...

Believe it or not, this was actually their solution to prevent voting abuse...

The goal of building a community currency is to get more “crabs in the bucket”. Going to extreme measures to eliminate all abuse is like attempting to put a lid on the bucket to prevent a few crabs from escaping and comes at the expense of making it harder to add new crabs to the bucket. It is sufficient to make the walls slippery and give the other crabs sufficient power to prevent others from escaping.

Wow you are 100% correct! Just like that! Pretty sad to be honest.

People should be allowed to use a upvote-service for what-ever they wish. If we, as a community, don't like the idea of upvote bots. Then the bots itself should be outlawed. Punishing people who make use of a legitimate service is a big no go for this platform.

Thank you! This is what I believe. How are we supposed to know that Whales have a Not Bid Bots policy in place?, who gave this people the role of Steemit Admins?, at the end of the day Bid Bots are now agaisnt Steemit Rules. This is just a few Whale accounts acting like they own the place.
