MTV, YouTube and Steemit

I Want My MTV

Some of you my age (50ish) will remember the early days of MTV. It was a grand experiment in a new format that changed the way we perceived music. I remember listening to the radio in the 70's, liking a song and not seeing a photo or performance of the artist on television for months later. If the big 3 networks weren't showing it, you didn't see it! Oh, there were the magazines like Tiger Beat and such that could give you a glimpse of your favorite star, but by and large there wasn't much in the way of tv performances with the exception of American Bandstand, Soul Train, or the musical performer on SNL.

Then along came MTV in 1981 and everything changed! 24/7 performances, videos, interviews, it was like watching the Wizard of Oz change from black and white to color. We couldn't wait to get home from school to see the next "World Premiere" video release, then talk about in class the following day. We were happy for awhile, then things began to devolve...

Fast forward to today and there are almost NO music video on MTV. How is this possible?

YouTube used to be a great platform to post your interests and attract followers, it was a game changer for many. But as time went on, income streams were altered or dropped altogether, and now the censorship has begun. Entire channels have been taken down for inappropriate content as determined by "The Powers That Be", for what seems to be a slanted political agenda. Our freedoms continue to erode as we allow "book burning", and as governments across the globe clench their fists around our freedom speaking throats.

But alas, along comes Steemit! Another bold experiment has risen, taking hold and shedding a ray of light on a world cast in shadow. This platform has the power to once again change lives, giving people a chance to speak their mind and be rewarded in a form of payment not controlled by any governmental power.

I have only been here less than a month, but I am impressed with the content and variety posted on Steemit. I look forward to the journey, and this time let's fiercely guard our independence and free thought, lest it be snatched from our grasp yet again.

Grab the torches and pitchforks, it's time to retake the castle!

We are on the cusp of another massive change...i remember AOL Cds to get online...I remember the first time using facebook in college...and this is that same feeling with this entire Blockchain Movement!

I still have many AOL CDs stacked up on a shelf for some unknown reason

Ebay them! Those are collectors items now.

I kept them with the intention to make some sort of art out of them. But they've just sat there. Maybe I'll follow your advice.

Upvoted and following! I too remember those good old days. Excellent comparison between the evolution and devolution of MTV and Youtube and the emergence of Steemit, which we all hope will have a better future.

Thanks for the upvote and follow! Yes we are living in interesting times, fortunes will be made and lost in the coming years, I'm trying to position myself with digital currency and gold and silver. I look forward to your future posts!
