I fell that there are a lot of diverse communities and community efforts on Steem - just the boys (and it is mostly males) with the deep pockets are not that interested in supporting them.
A lot of people leave Steem because they are looking for interacting with friends - and all of that is going on off Steem on Discord. Diving into the Steem world often means to let go of old friends (i.e. Facebook friends) and for a lot of people, it is not worth the effort.
And then, there is the ugly side that comes up over and over again. Like flagging random posts, including newcomers.
Don't know what the solution is, but I am with Rowan @raj808 - we have a little bit of crazy in us to have stuck to and put so much effort into the platform for so little return.
