My Top 13 Steemit Hot Tips So Far!

in #steemit8 years ago

When I get involved on a new platform, I like to learn as much as I can about how it all works, so I don't waste my time getting results.

So, since signing up on Steemit a day ago, I've read multiple posts about ways to get ahead on the platform. It's likely that some of these are hoaxes, or the information has changed, but here they are, in no particular order.

Steemit Hot tip #1!

This one is about getting more upvotes and declares that there are "top secret" hashtags you can use to get more attention to your posts. So, here they are.

  • #UpVoteForUpVote this one is supposedly a vote exchange label, which means you are agreeing to upvote a post for every user that upvotes yours.
  • #TrevonJB was the author of the piece I read and says, provided this thread hasn't become too fast to follow, that he will upvote anyone that uses it.
  • #CraigRant is another hashtag the article says is designed to find good, new feeds and promote them. So, we will see.

Steemit Hot Tip #2 Another vote getting scheme

This one is the Steemit equivalent of a chain letter. The writer declared that anyone upvoting the post would be rewarded and that with each round of successive payout, the reward would grow. You can find it here.

Steemit Hot Tip #3 Get on the follower train

Next up is a cross promotion for more followers. I suppose the value of followers on Steemit, is similar to any other social platform, the wider your audience, the more upvotes and replies you earn. It also seems to me that the right followers matter more.

  • More prominent accounts as followers could potentially lead to higher rewards.
  • Influential contributors have more to offer than just votes, their replies tend to draw attention as well.
  • Being associated with bigger fish can raise your own profile in most social circles. I'm guesing steemit is not that different.

Here's the post that was asking for comments, and suggesting all commenters follow each other. There were not many.

Steemit Hot Tip #4 Try the Guest Blogging Approach

According to this author, steemers that appear as guests on prominent blogs, tend to benefit in real rewards and gain followers and upvotes on other posts. The English on this one is not the writer's first language, making it less likely to work for them, but overall, not a bad idea. Here it is.

Steemit Hot Tip #5 Optimize Your Posts

Just like any other writing platform online, Steemit uses search algorithms to deliver relevant content in response to keyword searches. This authoroffers some solid advice.

  • Make your title a relevant preview of the content, include keywords.
  • Use keywords in your first paragraph. This is standard SEO for all online writing.
  • Make sure your tags are relevant and choose active categories for more attention.

*I would add, that as I have searched Google for tips, I notice that Steemit, being new, produces good results for the keyword "steemit" this effect will be short lived, but writers that include it in their titles may benefit, provided it is relevant to the content. *

Steemit Hot Tip #6 Learn to markup for more attractive posts

I've decided to save time and learning by shortcutting to StackEdit.io, but this author has a pretty good overview for markup commands that are useful for writers who prefer to do markup organically.

Steemit Hot Tip #7 Develop your reputation the old fashioned way

Reputation score comes into play when users determine who to support, as well as controlling the downvote protocol. This article proposes six pillars to solid reputation on Steemit. They are

  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Citizenship
Find this hard to remember? "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" sums it up pretty nicely.

Steemit Hot Tip #7 Build Your Reputation While You Can

As I personally have witnessed, having launched a social media marketing firm when the term was first gaining public acceptance, things happen fast. The Facebook platform went from tens of millions to a billion in a very short amount of time. Now, while the audience is small enough to be seen, is the time to establish yourself.

  • Create quality content
  • Don't get greedy, stick with writing useful articles that will be evergreen
  • Recognize the potential and establish yourself, this is still the ground floor.

Three weeks ago, the platform was hitting 30k users!

Steemit Hot Tip #8 Always use multiple tags

Since up to five tags are available on each post, learn the available tags and use five per post, every time, without fail. Why?

  • Users have different interests, many will scan several categories on each visit to look for content, you'll be in five of them.
  • New posts go to the top of the new posts lists, and appear in each category they are listed for, at the top.
  • tags are searchable, so that anyone looking for steemit tips, will find this post!

SEO is what separates the big boys from the wannabe on the WWW and it does in here too. Those who take advantage of tags will come out ahead in the end.

Steemit Hot Tip #9 Use Search to Find Relevant Content

Closely related to tip 8, this one explains how to find what you are looking for inside the Steem platform. It's fairly intuitive for most of us.

  • Locate the spyglass on the top task bar at the right and click it
  • Type in the keywords you would like to find content for
  • Sort through available content for the best fit, enjoy!

Steemit Hot Tip #10 Cashing Out

While it may be cool to see payouts coming on a daily basis, it takes a little work to bring what you earn on steemit into the real world and turn it into goods, utilities, and groceries. Here are three places you can exchange steem dollars and steem for bitcoin and other spendable currencies.

Steemit Hot Tip #11 Filtering Posts

By Clicking on the Steemit logo in the top left corner of the page you'll be taken to the posts feed. Here you can see posts that have been added by other users according to filters. To the right of the logo, a drop down box appears, with seven options, the following graph explains. I found it here.

Steemit Hot Tip #12 Curation Payouts

Curation rewards come for upvoting popular content and leaving replies that get upvotes and other replies. Since, according to this site showing whales and their rewards, more rewards are earned for curation than creation, study up!

  • Half of the payout amount goes to curators and half to authors.
  • The curator payout is paid by percentage based on who upvoted first. Being the first vote guarantees you the best possible share.
  • Vot payouts are always in steem power, which increases your share in payouts and gives your vote more power.
This post gives you some good tips to understand how to choose the right posts to upvote.

Steemit Hot Tip #13 You can tip other steemers!

Feeling generous, or want to use your steem currency inside the platform for exchange? You can send SBD (steem backed dollars, for those who don't know) from your wallet to theirs. Here is a video that shows you how. Video post

Anyways, keep up the good work, and FULL STEEM AHEAD!

hey, budz, this post is from last summer.

Great post!
Here are some other tips that I have building popular blogs that aren't on Steemit.

  1. Use a lot of visual content (pictures, videos, infographics, etc)

  2. Break up your paragraphs into smaller sections. People have short attention spans and don't want to read entire paragraphs.

  3. Use a lot of headlines. Again, people have short attention spans so make your post SCANNABLE. List posts are great for this.

  4. Write quality content that people love to read to increase credibility and respect. No brainer. But also, be authentic.

Those are just a few marketing tips. Good luck!
