WHY FACEBOOK? The social network that sells our information

in #steemit7 years ago

In recent years, technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, it is incredible to think that for years we had to go to a library to get information when we now have everything in the palm of our hand thanks to the Internet.

Without a doubt the Internet is until now the modern wonder number 1.

But how beneficial is the Internet?

The arrival of the Internet gave rise to millions of web pages that offer different services, as well as companies that publicize their projects through this.

But ... not everything is as good as it seems

If we closely follow the evolution of the Internet, we can see that in the period of the years 2000-2012 social networks appeared. Instruments that serve to communicate with people anywhere in the world.

These networks that only seem like simple tools are THE CANCER OF OUR DAYS.

Through these "networks" a society with no values

was born and very superficial where children and adolescents are the most affected

How do social media make money? If they are free

Simple ... YOU

Corporations like Facebook get benefits by selling information about you, which you post on your page. This information is received by other corporations like Amazon that use to sell you products that you do not need, but according to your tastes you would not hesitate to buy them.

But it is not only Amazon , but thousands of corporations to which you sell your information so that without realizing you buy your products. Social networks are not media, they are drugs

What if I use them for my work or business?

Like everything, there are 2 parts, the good and the bad. The latter has been overshadowing the first. Social networks can contribute to make your business easy and fast. And also help you communicate with people in your work.

So are not they so bad after all?

YES AND NO

Social networks can help you get a job and communicate with your friends and family quickly, and sometimes inform you about news.

In my case, I have boycotted Facebook and its empire, not only because of its monopoly and control of our information, but also because of the consumption they generate of our time. That's right, life is one and it does not make sense to waste our time unnecessarily on social networks which does not generate any kind of benefit to the user.

Let's take the time and enjoy with the family, get together with our friends and do more things outside than in the network.

Remember this: "Facebook will not give you back the lost time"

And where is Steemit in this situation?

Steemit is the nemesis of Facebook.

It is a community where riches are shared among all, whether by voting, commenting or retesting. And most importantly, publications are of quality as people strive to create good content for the platform.

On the other hand Facebook does not offer any benefit to the user and most of the information that is handled on the network is sterile and false (fake news).

And what do you think? Are we wasting our time on Facebook?

Sort:

As You said... YES and NO. If we use Facebook mainly for communication (like Messenger), arranging events or just as an extension to the real life overall - I wouldn't call it a wasted time. But then we have another side of that coin where people are literally addicted to social media and constantly updating/checking others' statuses. Also, there's a great issue with information leak. I don't mind seeing an advertisement of what i like since I would probably buy it anyway but seeing how much information regular people can google about you gives me shivers. Also, Steemit isn't exactly a social media, more like a blogging site so I doubt it'll replace Facebook. However, I'm looking forward to some kind of a fresh site with more transparent privacy policy.

Facebook already declared war on steemit, saying they were considering using cryptocurrencies. Just imagine if Facebook copied Steemit, it would be the end of this platform and would fill even more the pockets of Mark Zuckerberg

I didn't know about that but the idea itself is good so no wonder they're considering copying this... Still, I highly doubt it'd decentralised like Steem is which would ultimately lead to its downfall in my opinion.

If you use internet on proper way you will be rich .......
