Wanted to give you a quick update on the first Steemit meetup in SEA!
The shirts have been made. The beer has been ordered. The presenters are all amped up.
We are ready to roll!
The day is not just about Steemit. We start off the innovation fest with some talks on growth hacking and big data. We'll then go straight to a networking barbecue with craft beer from the local brewpub. Because Lunch is serious here in Cambodia. Yep, I purposefully wrote that with a capital L. It's that important. Lunch will last at least 2 hours!
The afternoon will start out with some small talks on programming, if there is enough interest.
The most part of the afternoon will be taken up by crypto talks.
We'll get treated to an introduction to blockchain technology by someone who runs masternodes on the DASH network.
Then we'll get into a Steemit presentation where I'll be explaining the technical details of Steem and Steemit.
I'm expecting a large q&a session on it afterwards.
We'll then go into UNconference mode and create small round table sessions where everyone can get down and dirty with the expert panel. We'll be answering all the questions you might have and give hands on advice on every topic that passed the revue during the day.
The crowd will be a varied audience of digital nomads, 'plain' nomads, Cambodian students, professional IT experts, and the random stranger that walks in.
Here is the official flyer of the event, created by @theflame:
I decided to give my presentation a quick test run so you can completely ruin me with your comments.
I posted this quick draft of the presentation on Youtube and I would love to get your feedback on it!
Don't mind the hesitation and stuttering. I was just winging it at 7am, unprepared. That's why it's only a rough draft :)
Spotted anything I missed or that was just plain incorrect? Let me know in the comments so I don't look like a fool on Saturday!
Big shoutout to @legrand and @donkeypong. Their excellent tutorial posts served as the baseline for this presentation.
Here's the list of confirmed Steem users who are attending the event:
@menta (obviously!)
@amy-goodrich
@faddat
@jbones
@rampant
@theflame
@graphotism
@manicmidnight
@chrisjohnhurst
@coincambodia
@novpung
Then there's a few which I don't know the username of and a few who are still on the fence.
To be honest, I'm pretty stoked that we manage to get 10 of us together. After all, this is a small corner of the world. And by looking at the Steemit analytics, there's not a big Asian userbase at this moment.
I invited a bunch of other friends as well. My main goal of doing this is to spread the word about Steemit to the average Cambodian.
Most Cambodia youth are into Facebook. Here are some stats from 2010:
As you can see, the Cambodian youngsters embraced social media. Imagine what Steemit could mean for them. In a country where the minimum wage is around $80/month, Steemit has the potential to change the life of many families.
Hopefully this will be the first in a series of events across the region. I for one will be pushing hard to keep the momentum going in the coming months.
Yes, YOU!
Do you live in SE-Asia and are you interested in these kind of events? Than let me know so I can build a database of Steemians. This can help me choose the next location.
Do you have a venue that could be used for an event. Again, let me know and we'll see if we can set something up.
Are you part of an organization that runs tech and business events, let me know and I'll be a guest speaker at your event for free!
Do you have other ideas for marketing events across the SEA region? Get in contact with me asap and we'll see how we can help each other.
Other interesting location to kick off some events:
Chang Mai, Bangkok, Hanoi, Da Nang, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bali.
Or even Hong Kong!
STEEM ON!
Signing off,
Jan Schets
